I noticed a Crystal Oyster chip on eBay claiming to be a prop for an HBO movie called Lucky Man. I cannot find a reference to this movie anywhere. At first, I thought it might be Owning Mahowny but underwent a name change prior to release. That is not the case either, as Lucky Man is said to be from 2018, and Owning Mahowny was well before that date.

Was this movie never released? Weird that I cannot find anything about it.

EDIT: Based on the date, I am guessing it is this...? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3458760/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Actually, maybe not as I see no mention of HBO on that imdb entry.

Interesting, ChipGuide says
Protech chip manufactured by CHIPCO International for the HBO movie, "Lucky Man." These Protech chips are the highest quality made, according to CHIPCO. Chips are 10g ceramic with linen finish. There were 13 of this Crystal Oyster series manufactured.

The chip was selling for $5 for a single $5 chip. I have 2000 of these :) I realize that is just eBay nonsense and these chips were widely available and have probably little to no collector value at all.

Nice chips, though. They are my main cash game set(s)--micro and small stakes.

Pretty sure these chips have been around for at least 10 years. Never heard of a connection to a movie, just thought it was a retail poker fantasy set.

Hmm. Wonder if they mean Lucky You... that terrible movie with Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore.

Never heard of it, don't have HBO.

The only "Lucky Man" I have heard of is this:

Not a movie, not HBO, but a lot of the action seems to take place in a casino setting. Links and pictures would make this mystery a lot more interesting to solve BTW.
There is not much really to illustrate. These chips were widely available as a fantasy casino set about 15 years ago (as already mentioned). I was surprised to see a claim linking them to a movie. I was interested in seeing what this movie might be. That is why I posted. Not really looking for information on the chips as I have a ton of them already.

Here is a pic of a $5 Crystal Oyster:

For these chips to have been made for the movie, it must be a film from 2005 or earlier.

Unless they just chose an existing fantasy set to use as props.

Stan Lee's Lucky Man is a series from 2016-2018. One eBay auction even uses screenshots from the show while still claiming its an HBO movie. However, all the screenshots I have seen only have the main character at the casino table with cheap plastics.

I had a set of these back in 2013. Great chips bought directly from Chipco

Thank you. I suppose that solves the mystery. I was hoping it was some poker related movie that I had not heard of.

It seems the claim that these chips were used in an HBO movie seems rather dubious, or based on inaccurate information.

I agree. I bought a couple thousand of them in a GOCC clearance sale for .25c per chip. I have two sets, a micro and a small stakes set. Great value at .25c per chip. I did have to order a few barrels of the .25c chip from GOCC at .65c per chip to round the set out, however. The rest of them are genuine Chipco chips.
