Have You Ever Had A Gambling Problem? (1 Viewer)

I went to high school with a guy who graduated owing over $5k to a bookie. That guy became a cop and made it to Sgt. before being allowed to "retire" . . . rumour was he still owed, and was trading "favours" to pay off.

I have a very addictive personality. I may be addicted to poker, I don't think it's a problem though because I practice extremely nitty bankroll management. I don't borrow money to gamble with and feel I have a good grip on myself.

Gambling is a problem that can arise if you have a little bit of success with it. If you win big when you first gamble , you have the urge to continue to try your hand.

Never really a problem but I blew up one day spending a lot more than I should have after busting at poker. Stupid slot machines lol

The only problem I had was that I lose most of the time. Losing money can get an addiction too.

I've honestly only been to a casino 15 to 20 times in my entire life (27). The first time I went to a casino it was for a bachelor party and I brought 20 dollars to gamble with. I walked away with 700 dollars from hitting a jackpot on a dime slot machine. It was probably over a year before I went to another casino where I won but only a few hundred dollars playing blackjack. I think I manage my gambling pretty well for the most part.

I too have an addictive personality so when I get onto a new hobby I tend to go a bit overboard. The other night I just got the talk from the gf saying that she thought I was obsessed with poker chips... So I gave her the boot and kicked her out... haha jk, I did tell her I'd not buy any more big sets of poker chips for awhile to appease her as I can see her point. I went from playing with my buddies dice chips to spending close to 500 dollars on my 2 sets of chips. I haven't always been into poker chips (that's a recent addiction) but I've always been into poker and being I am the one that hosts monthly games for all my friends at least I know the chips will be put to good use :).

She should be doing cartwheels after hearing that you only spent 5 bills.

If our AC hadn't died about 2 weeks before buying all my chips she probably wouldn't have minded but I told her I was buying poker chips instead of putting the money towards the AC lol. The AC can be fixed in the spring anyways, no rush being its fall already :).

I used to have a problem back in the day. Playing in games I had no clue about and also drinking while playing poker before I had ever read a poker book and spent any time studying the game. Most of my gaming troubles I believe had to do with alcohol problems.

I know plenty of degenerate gamblers though. One kid lost 40k at the blackjack tables that he owed to a bookie. Not sure how that one played out.

That sounds bad and not like something that has more to do with gambling than with drinking. Alcohol doesn't give good advices.
