Once you live here long enough you start getting used to it Quick... I worked in downtown Detroit for many many years and I'd walk around for lunch or happy hours often without a problem... With the construction of Ford Field and Comerica Park (Lions and Tigers) and the boom of high-tech start-ups the past few years, downtown has been experiencing sort of a revival... You wouldn't believe the number of great new restaurants and bars in the area... That's not to say it's safe everywhere, there's some areas that still resemble Fallujah...
I really like my neighborhood as it's one of the few suburbs of D- with a nice small downtown area and in which one can actually walk the sidewalks... Other suburbs are mostly subdivisions, with no downtown, from which you have to drive to get a Starbucks... And trust me, $70K cars/trucks are definitely NOT the norm here, and it starts with mine... I bet you didn't see any foreign cars either!
Just let me know next time you're around and I'll try to put a game together for us!
Well let me say that because of my idiocy I am pretty familiar with a large portion of your city albeit the part of town tourists mostly hear about. I have to be honest. Flat out. I was terrified at one point somewhere on East Grand or Grand River??. Your neighborhood was pretty upscale though. I don't think I saw a single vehicle parked on that shopping strip running parallel to the 1 under $70,000. My escape looked a little out of place. lol.
Thanks again. I have convinced the wife and friends to try the casinos down there again. So hopefully we can meet up. In the meantime if you visit the Grand and can fanaggle some quarters off the paigow dealers I'm buying!
