Watching a random poker vlogger for the first time and the video starts with this... Some card room in Florida, has anyone ever played at an actual establishment with chips that look like year old abandoned fishing bobbers??? I knew Floridians were weird, but I didn't know they chewed on the chips while playing! Maybe I'm accustomed to full casinos, but this seems quite sad... And mixing old and new stock

Wow, these are not even clay and look what happened to them. I think I have seen another post here years ago that was identical. I guess cheap plastic just breaks down.

Maybe they wash them and that's breaking them down???

Somebody posted some really worn out and nasty dice chips on here a while back as well. I’ve heard micro plastics are tough on our environment, and these chips are definitely contributing!

Buy clay, save the environment!

I've seen equally, possibly worse, RHC $1's and $5's at the local 4/8 and 1/3 NL poker room tables.

It was the first time I played cards since I joined and really examined the chips. I was blown away by how worn and busted they looked.

I'll see if I can snag some pictures next time.

Are they? I don't think I've ever seen ceramics crumble like that. Low quality plastic, I'd say.
ICONs are plastic afaik. Nothing ceramic about them. They feel cheap and horrible, and they wear terribly, but I didn't think they were as bad as the pics in the OP.

I didnt know paulsons were square edged, at casino rama in Ontario they were all bike tires or worse. I didn't even recognize that they were actually paulsons nut they shuffled nicely. I bought some nice chips and were surprised how sharp they were. Even other players used to question my Paulson's Pharaoh set as being non-legit because of how square they were...also some bit*he'd that they were hard to shuffle because of the square edges. They don't complain about my HSI's, they love those (most are lightly used).

At Rama the chips were generally worn to the full face label with parts of the hat and rarely a cane visible.

I still prefer slightly used chips to brand new for play as they are more comfortable on my fingers.

Yeah, this is my local room, and the vlogger is Kyle Fischl, who also plays there.

These guys bought crappy slugged plastic chips when they opened, and many of those original chips are still in play years later. Some of them have exposed slugs. Here's a pic I took a while back:

Probably nobody is biting the chips. But this is the result of constant abrasion and rough play on a less ddurable base. Cheaper plastic? Stack heights must be a nightmare with mixed conditions in there.
Nobody is biting them. They are hard, slippery plastic, and are just falling apart after years of use. It is a challenge to stack them 20 high.

I think this every time I see this YouTuber…I’ve passed on going to this cardroom precisely because the chips suck…

It also sucks that they rake 6+2. I've mostly stopped going here. 2/5 games are tough because it's the closest room to Orlando by an hour. 1/2 games suck because of the high rake and large number of shortstackers.

You'd think with that rake they could afford to hire some security to enforce the no-biting-the-chips rule

At avg 20 hands per hour that's approx $120-160 per hour....
Multiply by tables and then decide by the number of staff and account for hydro, rent, facility depreciation etc...

Costs have gone up, but our ability to gamble at affordable stakes really hasn't,

Not that this is about the chips, but I loke watching Kyle Fischl grind low stakes. I've been watching Rampage and Mariano since they started and now they play stakes that I can't relate to. I still love Brad Owen because his commentary and thought process is absolutely the best. Kyle is relatable and I like that.

I have been searching for more low stakes content. It seems right around the $500-$1000 buy-in mark makes the most exciting poker for me. Players are still a little tight, but the play is also more competitive. Brad is the best in my book, but he posts so infrequently that my fix remains unsatisfied. Rampage posts a lot, but he seems to just gamble half the time anymore, and you're right, selling 90% of your action in a $50k livestream cash game just isn't relatable.

Those are some god-awful chips. You'll have to make sure your tetanus is up to date before playing with those.
