A thread on here got me thinking about harvesting chips for other forum members and how there are probably members on here that live near casino's that have great chips that others might be interested in.

I'm envisioning a sticky where people post what casino's they live nearby and are willing to harvest chips from. If you see a casino you want chips from you message that person and they proceed to harvest said chips charging face value plus shipping and possibly the cost of gas if they had to drive a few hours to get there? (Open for discussion on all details).

You would like the casinos nearby you and make the name be a link to the mogh chip page for that casino so people could easily click on the name and see what chips were at that casino.

For example:

I live nearby the following casino's that I would be more then happy to harvest chips from for people that wanted them.

Running Ace's
Canterbury Park
Mystic Lake Casino
Treasure Island
Grand Casino Hinckley (hour and a half to two hours away from me)
St Croix Casino Turtle Lake

Let me know what your thoughts are on this idea and I'll make a new sticky thread which would just have the casino info for casinos you'd harvest from (no discussion in that thread to keep it clean). Also not really sure what category it would go in but considering these would be chip purchases not for profit I thought this might be a good spot.

Great idea.

I live right next to the Highway 9 and just down the road (technically down Highway 9) from Aces.....Oh wait, those are gone now. :p

Now the one closest to me is the Tulalip Resort Casino, but I think they are shit house (BJ plastic ugly boring things) so I doubt anybody wants those.

Delaware Park
Dover Downs

This is the only chip worth harvesting near me.

I'm actually kinda digging the Dover Downs chips. Don't make a special trip for me but if you're there and can get a complete 1 to 25 sample set that are all in good shape I'd take it.

Awesome thread, Cheese.

I have harvested from a few rooms on several occasions for CT/PCF members and would be glad to do so again from any Atlantic City room (NJ statewide ChipGuide link) or from Parx in Philly (ChipGuide link).

Wow those Parx look great Jbutler. If I hadn't just bought a limit set of chips I'd probably try to see if you could harvest like 400 of the 1's and a hundred 2's but I literally just got a limit set a few days ago.

If you are up for it and can get a sample set in good shape 1, 2, 2.50, 5, and 25 chip I'd definitely love to have it to display. Let me know if you are able to and I'll get paypal to you.

Agreed. If you could get some of the $1 mint itd be awesome to have a few racks. (No I don't want any)

I don't really have any harvest worthy casinos within reasonable drive for me, so I'm probably out for harvesting.

I had a member harvest my binions $1's to use as my bennys quarters, and I was happy to pay a little extra per chip for their effort.

I guess if people are willing to harvest for free, then that's their call.. However, I personally wouldn't want to ask someone to harvest for me without giving them a little scratch for their efforts.

Either way, this is a great thread, and great idea.

I've only been there once. Next time I'm in the Dover area, I'll stop in. Too bad DE Park has crappy chips. They are 5 mins from me.

Thanks Erik. Valid points you make. I'm open to ideas so lets hear them everyone.

Imo I feel like as a community it would be great if people were willing to do it without a fee but I can certainly understand the viewpoint of getting a little something extra. I think it depends on the situation. If I'm already going to say Canterbury and someone wants me to harvest a few racks I'd do it for free as I'm already planning to go there. Now if someone wants me to drive up to Grand Casino Hinckley which is almost 2 hours away and I wasn't planning to go there anyways a little bit of money for gas and time etc would be nice.

Lets discuss all aspects people. That's what this thread is here for!

Sounds good, thanks Tommy! Yeah the DE Park chips look really lame :/

Tulalip chips are garbage...

Great idea! I'd def be interested in this!
Like @Tommy outta the three casinos I'm near Dover has the best and it's about 90 min away from me
Haven't seen the Delaware Park chips but I harvested some from Harrington Raceway & Casino and...

Let's just say I'm glad they paid for themselves on that trip...

Harvesting live chips is probably cheaper than buying retired (cash game ) .....with the crazy prices of Paulson now

I was tempted to get a small set of Caesars when I was in AC. Use the snappers as fracs and get a few 20s.

Ease of the harvest depends a lot of casino size and traffic. Not many places are going to allow you to just ask for a mint racks of a low denom and walk out.

I'd kill for 7 days alone in Vegas this summer if there were any SCV/LCV mint blue 1s with good spots to be had. I'd be like a combine on a wheat field.

You and me both :) I'll be in Vegas for 4 days in March, was trying to figure out what might be worth harvesting.

Absolutely. They have a $10 chip, too - want one of those as well?

Also, I've never actually seen the $2.50 as the poker room and casino floor are in separate buildings (don't get me started about that terrible design) and I don't play table games. I go over there for dinner on occasion, though, so it's no big deal. I'll see if they'll sell them to me.

Do you still want a partial sample set if I can't get the snapper?

I'm hitting Vegas in January, and am staying at the Flamingo. I'm tempted to harvest a couple racks of their mintier blue $1's. Purely for selfish reasons. I don't think it'll be as easy as buying racks and walking away. I think it'll require hours at the table sorting (cherry picking) the nice chips (as I play), and then somehow stashing them so the casino doesn't freak when I walk out of the poker room with them. :)

I also think I'm gonna be limited with getting these in my luggage. We're flying a budget airline, which charges extras for checked luggage, so I think we're going to be packing very light. Still not sure how this will all work, but the last time I was at the Flamingo, I spent a lot of time with their chips, and they grew on me. :)

Wish me luck!

Will probably be cheaper depending on the airline to just pack them up and mail them back home if it's the difference between paying an additional weight fee or for an additional bag.

Also, not sure when they started, but evidently the Flamingo has been pulling/phasing out/not rebuying the spotted $1s. I think maybe @courage or someone else was there recently and was telling me via email that the spotted chips are hard to find and spotted birds basically extinct.

harvested for @Trihonda last year for his binions, packing them up in my checked luggage suckedddddd. they opened up my luggage and emptied the racks in my bag. they probably thought it was a jackpot of like $5s or $25s, but when they found out they were dirty $1s, they just dumped them back in my bag. I put them in seran wrap, in individual freezer bags, rolled in a towel.

Yeah a $10 chip would be great as well. No biggie if you can't get the snapper but if you can, that'll just be a bonus.

Thanks!

That has been my experience as well. Flamingo chips are now a sad state of affairs.

When I was at the Flamingo this summer they watched pretty closely if you are sitting at a table and take chips off the table. Now if you rack up your chips to carry them to the spot to cash out you could easily throw a few barrels in your pocket that you've cherry picked and just cash out the bad chips. That's what I'd do at least.

Duh, throw em in a FRB and ship em to yourself. You can even just use clothes as packing materials. I actually did this, (with some trinkets, not with chips), and had the front desk print my shipping label. Then left the box with them. It showed up at my house the day after I got home.

Brilliant idea. If I was positive I was going to do this, I could pre-print a label from home (actually cheaper to order it online).
