Played in a home game tonight where it was hard to hold my tongue. Guy had a new set of chips he was so proud of.

Telling us how his son bought him this set of casino quality chips. He went on and on. They were horrible chips. Hard to tell the blues, blacks and purples apart.

I had to remind myself we are the minority when it comes to chips.

Sometimes you have to hold your tongue even at your own house amongst your own friends when you are a chip snob. I remember the night I hosted a game and put my first ever clay set on the table... Secretly I was so excited I couldn't stand it. Until like five minutes into the game and a few people start talking about how much better they like my buddy Quintin's chips than the ones we were using. Quintin's dice chips. Better than mine. Mine were "so lite". Lol

This seems appropriate.

Few months ago I would have thought those were really nice, then I discovered this forum. Not close to being a chip snob.....yet, but on my way.

I played in a home tourney last night with something a little worse than that. Very hard to tell the colors apart. Was totally on tilt from those chips. Literally started looking for a replacement set when I got home for this couple that hosted, even though that was the first time I met them
 :ROFLMAO:

When someone else is happy, share in their happiness. I woulda told him his chips were awesome.

Six months later, ask him if he wants to see some more cool chips. "I could bring over a few samples you might like, there's a lot of different stuff out there, you might enjoy mixing up which sets you use now and then, how amazing would it be to have, like, two different awesome sets, or even three..."

A year later maybe his gift from his son is still a treasured heirloom that mostly stays on the shelf and not the table. :)

About 10 years ago I was there. I had acquired a set of 600 Brybelly "Black Diamond" with the laser hologram inserts came in racks and a birdcage. I thought it was the first "real set" I would ever own.

About 5-6 years later I find PCF and I did self-labeled brybelly blanks for my next effort, but I knew I was eventually going to work toward Sun-Fly Hybrids.

So I can empathize with your friend. I thought that quality of chip was pretty awesome 10 years ago. (Though in fairness, even 10 years ago I knew T50 chips were useless.)
