Offutt AFB, NE, E4B 747 eng mech.

Also served in base honor guard and got to transport remains of 200+ lost troops that were found from pearl harbor. Plenty of stories, not sure how cool they are. Met a lot of cool people though.

I hope the OP don't mind me posting a poker story here, if so please feel free to message me and I'll take it down.

Towards the end of my deployment in Iraq the last month of 13 months I rounded up 8-10 players almost every night to get a holdem game going. We didn't have easy access to cash so I also was the bank. We played $10 buy ins unlimited cash games. Max you could buy in for was $10. So when I say this is like hunting at a zoo that would be an understatement. With the first week I was up hundreds of dollars. I had players dropping off bc they couldn't win. So I starting recruiting players who never played.

I would give them $10 of my money to sit down, by the end of the night they spent $50 of their own. They loved it, and of course 90% of them used the phrase "damn you are so lucky". I was not the only crusher there, my buddy Dave crushed too. Long story short, I wish I had the notebook of all the people that I had to loan money to every night so they could play. I remember 19 different open tabs for players, I also remember vividly saying to myself no way I ever see all that money I'm owed. Before we got on that bird to fly out of hell, every last red cent was laid in full.

I left Iraq with $1190 off of $10 games. Not a lot of money but was super fun crushing souls back in 2008.

Who else has a cool veterans poker story?

Fantastic. Thank you for serving!

I was also USAF! I was at a bunch of shitty locations. Minot, Grand Forks, Kunsan Korea, and a 3 month TDY to Howard AFB in Panama in 88 (which was fricken crazy).

My best story is that I met Colleen at Grand Forks AFB in 88, married her in 89.

The only thing we played back in the day was 5 card draw and baseball for nickels (and tequila shots) lol.

Alright @detroitdad i got a funny one. During roll call 60+ people my chief invited me to the air force birthday ball and I declined and said "yeahhh my blues probably aren't ready for that"... That led to a full blues inspection, and constant shit from everyone in my unit. Seemed like for everything good thing I did I negated it with something stupid, but eventually got promoted early Below The Zone.

lol.........

I was young when I was in. I entered the service a couple of weeks out of high school. I didn't want to live at home. I didn't want to go to college. Screw it. I as well did my fair share of stupid shit. Usually it was my temper, and/or my mouth was the cause of it.

The most fun I had was when I was TDY in Panama. That was a shit ton of fun, and some crazy ass stories. I was a Canine LE. Worked a drug dog for most of my five years.

Probably the stupidest thing I did was when I was in S. Korea. I was under a lot of stress with having to leave my new wife and my 9 month old daughter. Our Kennel trainer was a complete asshole. Always giving us shit. I had enough one day and put my 100 pnd solid black German Shepard on guard when he was yelling at me. Rambo (yep, that was the dogs name) went into protect mode it scared the shit out of him.

He tried to file an article 15 against me, but he the kennel master knew he was a dick so he gave me DLR? or whatever their called, one under an article 15. This was before the internet. So you carried your files from base to base. When they turned them over to me they would say "make sure you clean all the bad shit out" lol

I've been on 26 TDYs since January 2016 so there's way too many to cover. I'm about to head out to do some errands but I have a great story about a Bachelorette party and stripping for @detroitdad that happened during my first TDY to San Diego

But anyway, I'm a 2T271 Air Transportation Specialist. E5 with 8 years in but I'll be promoting to E6 around March/April. Was stationed in Germany from 2011-2015. I did a deployment to Qatar from July 2013-Feb 2014. Been stationed in Travis AFB in norcal since Dec 2015 but after the new year I'll be going to Turkey for a year.

TDY to Korea on my birthday 2017. Awesome place and awesome food

Thank you

US Navy - 1998-2006
Stationed on the USS McClusky from 2000-2005
NAVTELSTRATCOM at Tinker AFB from 2005-2006

Cool story from the ship - in 2002 we had, at the time, the largest maritime drug bust. Millions in pure un-cut cocaine.

In 2002 we rescued a guy who was lost at sea for 3 months. He left LA and three months later was 300 miles off the coast of Costa Rica. We all chipped in and I escorted him home from Manta, Ecuador. When we arrived in Manta - all he wanted was a Big Mac!

Thank you to all here and everywhere else that have or continue to serve.

Thank you to all.

Most importantly and personal to me is my dad and grandpa who both served and had a huge part in ensuring that a slob like myself can lead a life full of stuff like snowboarding and disc golf. I get to play my life away, they were worrying about not dying in a foreign land when they were younger. That’s really heavy to me.

I feel so incredibly fortunate to have the life I do and everybody who has served in my stead gets my unending gratitude.
