i'll post better pictures in a while, and pictures of the rest of the set, but I have to get dinner going. I just couldn't wait though, cause I've been waiting to post this for a while.
A lot of time and money went into this rack. I was told it couldn't be done, but I did it in 10 months time, with a lot of help from this community. So much help in fact that I kinda feel like it partly belongs to the community.
I first saw these chips in this thread https://www.pokerchipforum.com/posts/264261/ in October of last year. I immediately jumped on eBay and paid $6 shipped for one of them. I couple of days later, I got 3 of them shipped for $9, also on eBay, and I thought it might be easy. Not so.
I got these 100 chips through a total of 37 transactions. But the quest almost became impossible. Sometime in February I think, somebody else started bidding aggressively on these, on eBay. Somebody with very deep pockets. I've bid him up, mostly for spite, to over $25 a chip (including shipping.) I've only beaten him once - that was on a lot that included 3 of these chips - I got mad and paid over $100 for them. I sold off the rest of the lot, but those 3 chips ended up being stupid expensive.
But this is where this community comes in - I never would have been able to complete this rack with Mr. Moneybags routinely paying $20-$25 per chip. Here what you guys have done for me:
I've gotten FREE chips in the mail from the following guys: @AWenger @MegaTon44 @kmccormick100 @Verebrant (this one came from the other side of the world) and @Wick125 These were wonderful gestures which I totally appreciate and I have and will continue to pay forward.
@kmccormick100 has also tipped me off to a few eBay auctions, including buying some cheap ones himself and giving them to me at cost. My largest volume benefactors have been @Psypher1000 and @Gear - they collected a total of 33 chips at the convention and sold them to me VERY VERY cheaply. IF they made a buck per chip for sorting through bins, they were woefully underpaid. @bivey and @AWenger sold me some for below market value, which I totally appreciate, and @Drumhoss (who's a vendor and is expected to look for top dollar) and @RainmanTrail (whose specialty is marketing and negotiations) also sold me some below market value - Thanks guys!
I'm thrilled with these. I'll post some better pictures and pictures of the playable set asap.
