I searched and also looked in the existing guidelines posted in classifieds and didn't see anything. As a newbie who has gotten hooked on poker chips, I love and NEED to see pictures when something gets posted for sale. Without pictures, I have no idea what most of the chips are. I've seen items listed for sale without any pictures or only pictures of the sides. What is that about? It takes me and potentially other buyers completely out of the sale. I once posted on a listing asking for a picture....crickets. Having pictures also seems like it would help reduce scams/disputes. With prices going up and some of the listings getting sold in a minute or less...just feels ripe for scams from people who don't actually have chips in their possession.

If I'm just out in left field and it's not how it's done, please tell me and I'll keep using the search function when something is posted for sale without pictures or only pictures of the sides.

Because alot of chips have thousands of racks out there and are commonly known. It's always better to add pics, but some are just common place. In time, you'll get used to some chips just being mentioned and know what's being referenced.

Our issues with people screwing people over are rare. Very rare. And the masses attack them make it pretty clear what happened.

And I know you didn't ask, but buy samples. Always.

I understand where you're coming from... and for the sellers, it truly should be easy to post a few pics. Its similar when sellers use acronyms for the chips they are listing. We seasoned members know exactly what is for sale, but it certainly makes it difficult for newer members.

Some chips are so new or were prolific in a recent Chiproom sale that pics really aren't necessary (for the seasoned members again).

On that note, when someone lists a rack of ES (Empress Star) cash 25c chips for $600... You stop to ask for pics... the veteran has already committed to buy and paid.

ES, PCA, fracs....you pretty much have to dibs sight unseen to have a chance. But there are others that might be RHC or THC or house mold depending on year / denomination where a picture is important.

Yeah, I guess there is a learning curve.

Samples for things like Horseshoe or Jacks or some non-RHC/THC makes sense. Good luck trying to get a sample of anything popular!

Don't wait for it to come to you. Make wanted ads for samples you want and they will appear. Don't think this is like eBay and it's about the first dibs. This place is a community (as much as some can argue otherwise), if you make connections and they know you are looking for items, they will PM ya.

Yeah, older chips that are casino used... like PCA primaries, Empress, Grand Victoria (GV)... and others should (and likely will) always have pics... to show the condition.

Agreed that any time there is potential confusion on the mold, pics should be included... heck... I'm in agreement that pics should always be included... it is just lazy on the seller's part. I'd say its only moderately excusable in the instances previously mentioned.

This is the only way. Everyone had to learn the hard way what all of these things are (PCA, PNY, GCR, BTP, TRK, blah blah blah blah blah) and you will too, faster than you think.

Instead of using the site's built-in search, use a Google search that includes the keyword "site:pokerchipforum.com" like this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=site:pokerchipforum.com+cps

You can also then click on "Images" to see exactly what the chips look like, and to find some useful posts where people are both talking about them and posting images of them.

Reading through The PCF Glossary is a big help, but google image search is even better. The glossary just dumps everything at you at once; it's too much to absorb without context.

There's a lot to learn here. :) Good luck!

Sigh.....

A man walks into a car dealership, the dealer says "You can buy this car sight unseen because we are too lazy to take it out of the garage and there are no pictures...just google this model." Then the man walks into a second dealership and gets to see the car and read the tag with details. Which one do you think will sell quicker and probably for more money?

I'm sure some of you are okay buying chips sight unseen. And yes, I can search to see what they look like and many I know in my head by now. But I still want to see the pictures especially for racks and sets with asking prices over a few thousand. I can't be alone here.

There are some amazing sellers that take great pictures, give plenty of details...even when selling just a barrel of chips....their stuff sells fast and at a premium! If the rest of you want to rule out a whole section of buyers, I guess that's your decision. Keep not taking pictures or posting pictures of other people's pics or taking pics in those enclosed racks so we can't see the condition. Your call.
