Only chip set I own so far are some monte carlos I got off eBay. Lesson learnt always buy samples first  :banghead:

Aims for the year are to get a 500pc set of Pharoahs or Majestic China Clays (cant afford Paulsons) and a nice table top. Already spoke to some of you who have been incredibly insightful!

To those of you who I am yet to meet, nice to meet you all. :p

Welcome and cheers! Sounds like you are already on the way to nicer chips. Good luck

Don't worry, that's what we all say at first...

... But seriously — welcome! Always good to have another Brit join; where in London are you?

Dulwich (southeast), yourself?

Hahah, no way, was going to say... How far away are you from Dulwich, as that is where my family live... Small world! I'm across the bridge in Wales, for my sins.

Welcome!!! Good luck on your chipping journey. You might even change your goals after doing a little thread surfing. I know I was dead set on getting some China clays (Dunes) but was turned on to Bud Jones chips as a reasonably priced chip that is an upgrade in terms of quality. Im sure some others here might chime in to sing the praises of Bud Jones as an alternative to China clays.

thanks will look into these :)

Welcome!
Read and see a lot, especially in the PR0N subforums.
Paulsons are out of the question for financially normal people lately, but real casino-grade clay compression chips are not necessarily so (Off-the-shelf CPCs and Key Wests).
Take your time and do not rush. :)

I should have added, definitely look at ceramics from BR Pro Poker as well as CC's, I rushed in and regretted it...see here. You could also wait a little while longer....I've been here a year, it's probably time for me to be selling my DDLM's before I even use them, so that I can create a custom CPC set instead.

If we are still locked down and you fancy building your own topper, let me know, I found some great suppliers last year.

Welcome from the Continent!

Lots of good suggestions for future sets here. Whatever you do, get samples! Enjoy the journey.

BUY MORE STUFF!! BUY IT NOW!!

What kind of topper? I bought one off Amazon (£100) then got a mat made.

pretty sure i'm buying the exact same one as you lol. riverboat gaming the riverboat?

i spoke to another person from the uk about their products who said it was good, how has your experience been with things like
-shuffling a deck of cards flat on the felt
-shuffling chips
-dealing cards

I’ve had one of the riverboat toppers before building my table. For the money it’s pretty good. I find speedcloth to be a bit “scratchy” but easy to deal from anywhere on the table apart from the far ends.

hey, thanks for sharing. rushing in to getting monte carlos was a huge mistake for me, mainly because the ones i bought (which i am selling tomorrow) have tonnes of flashing on the edges of the chips.
I have checked out BR a few times, I particularly like the look of desert sands as they are more my style compared to tikis and nevada jacks which I like the design of but wouldn't want as my main set.
For now I am just going to get a table top off riverboat-gaming, seems reasonably priced and seems to perform well, though I would still appreciate to know where you buy resources from, as it could be useful information for the future!

as long as its not near enough impossible to shuffle a deck face-down like some of the amazon poker mats then it's good enough for me :D

I’m sure that it was cheaper to buy from Amazon than from riverboat (weird but true).

The cloth is ok but like @JP1984 says it is a bit rough.

Shuffling cards on it is fine so is dealing.

Shuffling chips results in me having to pull the fridge out to get to the chips that ended up under it following the attempted chip shuffle.

that sounds like its probably good enough for me then
