Was guided here while piecing together a set, up late watching chip vids & here for one reason & one reason only—Fell in love at 1st sight w the Día de Los Muertos & keeping an eye out for a price drop or set for sale. Probably gonna be rolling w Outlaws til then Hello All :)

Welcome to the forum!! The outlaws are awesome chips, I’m sure you are aware they are slugged 14 gram ABS plastic, I own a sample set of them and debated buying those myself although Ms. @FordPickup92 was not a fan! All will tell you buy samples so that you are not just going off looks. Investing in chips is very expensive. Make sure you are happy with every aspect of the chips before jumping in with the full set!! Enjoy your chipping journey and feel free to PM anytime if you have any questions!!! Fellow Chipper Ben

I had the opportunity to play w the Outlaws shortly after I posted this, I liked them, decent enough for my purposes. Although, I was disappointed another game had them already.
Corona hit & I never pulled the trigger, but they still suit my budget for a 1000 set.. Any other similar suggestions?

Cash or tourney?

How many players max?

Typical stakes?

What is your buyin?

How many rebuys?

Most people that mention non-clay chips mention price point. I think 1000 chips is way too many for most home game settings. You can run a 2 table tournament with 700 chips or a 10-person cash game with 600 chips.

Buying less chips means you can upgrade the quality while the price remains the same.

200bi/9max
TX & Big O
Bc we like to play in red, was estimating something like:
200white
600red
100green
75black
25purple
Im sure there could be less blk/purp but that’s not where the $ is being spent..How can I adjust?

Is that cash? What are the blinds?

Off the top of my head, a 25¢/50¢ game can run with

100x25¢
200x$1
260x$5
40x$25

A $1/$2 game can run with
200x$1
400x$5
80x$25
20x$100

Those numbers can be tweaked, but it's a good starting point.

Yes, but if starting with 9 on a $200bi, that’s already 360 $5(red) out, I need to be able to cover at least a few rebuys in red.
Ime, lower denominations increase action, so I’d rather someone with $300 to have 60 red in front of them than 20red + 4 green + 1 black (for example). Don’t want to have to color up until the game has been going a few hours.

Ideally I’d like to spend about $300 on the set, but I can’t find a nice middle of the road option. I’m willing to pay more than the Outlaws but less than the Muertos— a .30cent chip would be perfect, but I don’t see any that are unique?
(Sorry, speaking in color comes more naturally than denominations!)

I still don't know what your blinds are... Sounds like your buyin is 200xBB and if 9 players is 360 red ($5) chips, that's 40 per person (or $200), so if your BB is $1, what are you playing, 50¢/$1? Or maybe $1/$1? I'm assuming this is a cash game.

I agree that maxxing out players with redbirds will lead to more action, but rebuys should be in $25 chips. Let the rebuyer get redbirds from the guy that just busted him. Otherwise, you're putting too many red chips on the table and you're going to have a mess with stacks.

If $1/$1 with a $200 buyin, I would start each person off with

20x$1 white (or 10x$1 if your game plays better that way)
36x$5 red (or 38)

That would mean starting stacks require
180 (or 90) x $1 white
324 (or 342) x $5 red

You can do 30 rebuys of $200 (more than 3 for each player) with 80x$25 green and 20x$100 black.

I think the following would work for you:

200x$1 white
400x$5 red
80x$25 green
20x$100 black

Once you confirm your stakes, someone that has more experience in higher stakes play (@Rhodeman77, @Hornet, @CraigT78) can look over my suggestion and make tweaks.

Thats 700 chips. If you were willing to spend 30¢ per chip for 1000 chips, you can spend 42¢ per chip for 700 chips and come in $6 under budget. You might be able to get into used claybfor 42¢ per chip if you're patient. You can definitely get used casino ceramics for that price.

If this is single table - I'd bump the $5 to 500 and round the set to 800 chips. In a pinch you can then run two tables.

The above breakdown will work great for most $1/1 or $1/2 hold’em games.

as @CraigT78 said I prefer 500 $5’s in my sets (It is hard to have too many $5’s!) and would like a few more $100’s as well to cover bigger games.
