Hopefully some Vegas frequents can help me. Im headed to vegas around christmas time, and while I know ill lose money I like to save poker for my local cardrooms and play the fun table games when Im there. Wondering what the minimums on the strip are looking like right now in general, mainly for things like craps, bj and paigow?

This is before COVID but last I was there, mins for craps vary wildly depending on the day and time. Nights at the casinos, the low min tables are $15 on M-W, and $25 Th - Sat. Sunday depends on the NFL so I'd expect $25 as well and be pleasantly surprised if its lower. If you want to play craps with low minimums, you're looking for lower name brands on the strip in the mornings. I was able to play craps at the Luxor and NYNY with a $5 min. Minimums went up around 4 PM.

If you want to play blackjack for $10 a hand, that can be found almost every day and time except Friday and Saturday where the lowest I ever saw was $25. To get to $5 a hand, you're looking for the same morning shifts as the craps tables.

I don't play paigow so I have no idea on minimums there. I'm familiar with the game so I'd assume it would be the same as blackjack minimums.

Honestly, if you want to play low minimums, your best options are downtown or an off strip casino like Sam's Town. I'd rather play low minimums and see if I can build a stake with the house's money. I usually walk away from the craps table with more than I came with provided I leave when my self imposed time limit expires (last point played is 30 minutes after I start).

Considering the crazy report I got from a friend who went there last month, these minimums might be higher. He said there's a ton of crazy tech money floating around the casinos. He told me a story of younger Tech-Bro's dropping large rolls of $100s at the craps tables and taking "20 minutes" to change in. I'm not sure about "20 minutes" but at a hot table, 5 minutes takes forever.

Checking the NFL and NHL schedules, unless you are there on Boxing Day, there are no games in town that week. Christmas is usually a quiet time for Vegas that allows them to get ready for NYE. It's actually my favorite time to visit since its festive but not swamped with too many crazy people (they show up for NYE).

It's my experience if you're a low bet gambler like me ($5-20/hand) you're better off going downtown. If $25+ is in your wheelhouse you'll be good at most places on the strip. Just check the rules card if you're playing BJ. A lot of spots have swapped 3:2 with 6:5 payouts for blackjacks at the lower limits.

I was going to recommend Casino Royale, but it looks like the Cromwell might be the place to be now.

I don't know anything about craps, but I have a buddy that is a hard core craps player. For years he has said that Casino Royale had the smallest come line and the highest multiplier. It looks like the article below agreed with him until this year.

Good luck!!

Edit: I just read the whole article and it looks a bit expensive.

I don't do much in the way of table games, but I was there at the end of August and had a co-worker who was unsuccessful trying to find $10 blackjack or craps tables on the south Strip (Luxor/MB/etc.).

my go to in old vegas... El Cortez. 3:2 blackjack, double deck. Was just there in early October, i cant remember now if the minimum was 5$ or 10$

As long as you don't mind being accosted by the drug addicts and 60 year old hookers.

isnt that supposed to be part of the vegas experience? Anyways, ive never had a problem in old vegas, or anywhere in vegas and ive been going twice a year for the past 10 years.

El Cortez is $10 minimum BJ & Craps at it's cheapest.

Southpoint is a fun option but it is south of the airport (far away).

+1 for El Cortez and Southpoint.

They're both fun places to play if you haven't checked them out before. El Cortez is smaller and more intimate (ie more smokey - if you care about things like this) and Southpoint is bigger with more tables to choose from (and brighter atmosphere - more airy?). FWIW, the dealers at Southpoint were all hilarious and friendly.

Have fun and win big!

Another thing for craps, 10x odds at El Cortez, 2x odds at Southpoint.

At 2x, what's the point?!?! Odds are how you minimize the house edge. I recommend the El Cortez and wear clothing I don't care about if it gets cigarette burns.
