First time the WSOP ever hosted a $1000 buy in NLHE event and it was the only one in the series that year. $1000 got you $3000 starting stack.
Much in poker and chips has changed.

The $1ks started in 2006 (or earlier)........ just FYI.

Also, that was the year (2006) that the Ladies event got the WSOP to up the chips from the original 1:1 ratio (Buy in to Chip Stack) and when I sat down at the table, I was expecting 1000 in chips, but they had given us 1500 I believe and said that they had made the change because of the complaints from the other event.......

Interesting, I hadn’t ever noticed or seen a $1000 on the schedule before 09. The event I played in was #4 that year, probably stuck out more to me being at the beginning of the schedule.
I remember feeling like the $3000 starting stack was so small, can’t imagine the $1500 starting stack.

Found this old receipt from '06. My wife thought I was crazy spending this much on poker chips. I was in the doghouse for a few weeks. 500 brand new Paulson PCR's (chip talk GB) and 500 ASM 312 H-mold's plus 10 Paulson rack's. All for $755 shipped!

I've done this multiple different times just to go look at pricing and my jaw just drops so hard it's hilarious. Seeing some chips that I'd love to have now and thinking if only I would have known about this stuff earlier things might be a little different. Those chips will come up on the market later in the future and then it'll be my chance to have those gems!

I can almost guarantee that there’s some way old school chippers here who lament about being too late because they just missed out on the original Pharaoh GB haha

Best advice finding your keeper set……..collect what it is that you love and you’ll never “miss the boat,” “be late to the game” or have any regrets in this hobby.
There truly is no right or wrong in what “speaks” to you when it comes to poker chips. We all have different reasons for pursuing our keeper sets, stay “true” to your own reasons and you’ll most likely always be a happy chipper.

I just found it genuinely interesting to see how much things have changed in such a relatively short amount of time — crazy hobby!

You bought them because they appealed to you at that time. I have board games that I won't play but I like the art work. Let's use the term self-indulgence to justify what we do. I am rebuying a few NASCAR magazines from the late 90's. I just got via UPS Lucky Horseshoe chips y-day. The driver was from South London. I know this because I saw him a few days ago. I sometimes talk with parcel and mail carriers as well as bus drivers. It pays to be civil with people. At a young age, my parents encouraged me to talk to strangers.

I just found it genuinely interesting to see how much things have changed in such a relatively short amount of time — crazy hobby!

I bought those Kings Crown chips (he listed them on Chiptalk as well). They were sent to me insured and signature required. I never received the chips. The address of the person who supposedly signed for the chips was clear across town. USPS gladly denied the insurance claim, since the package had been successfully delivered according to their records. I guess it doesn't matter where they delivered it to. I did go talk to the person who supposedly signed for the package, and they denied doing so. The experience was enough to put me off from ever trying to build a set of those chips. I like to think that whoever stole them drove all the way to Vegas before figuring out the casino doesn't exist, sold the chips to Spinettis for a song, and the chips wound up back in the hands of a chipper here somewhere. Those chips were a significant expense for me back then; I can't imagine losing those chips at today's prices!
