GOCC Signature Series (2 Viewers)

sunfly does a version of that chip, but i'd imagine the GOCC chip is of higher quality. i considered using the sunfly version for a project at one time, but ultimately chose not to in part because the sunfly rolling edge is too glossy for my taste. if GOCC made this chip available i would at least consider it again if i was confident edge/face alignment would be as close to dead solid perfect as possible since i'd want to do a bud jones-type design.

I sent an email asking for samples and if its possible to use it. Maybe a huge GB would lets us use it. :) We don't need the security features.

Sounds pricey. A large group buy on high end ceramics might be tough. Would have to be an out of this world design, I think.

Game On is a sponsor here so I'm sure someone from there will pipe in. [EDIT] just noted you're an Admin here so obviously you know that[/EDIT]

Not sure exactly what that chip would give you that is either necessary in a home or that isn't available through them or another vendor. Old West, ABC, and some others do very nice work. I think most can do aligned edge spots, if that's a major concern for you. The recessed center seems more appropriate, to me anyway, for clay. With ceramics the full face is kind of what they are all about.

My twa pence.

GOCC does aligned spots. the Nine Dragons GB will be a good test of how accurately they can align them since that design relies heavily on very close alignment.

i do think there's a place for recessed center chips outside of clay. i alluded to bud jones chips above and i think they're a great example of a non-clay chip with recessed centers that look fantastic. not everyone's cup of tea, obviously, but since BJ (GPI) doesn't offer customs (or any home chips), i could definitely see a market for a chip that could emulate that look. maybe not a huge market, but a niche that could bring in a few bucks.

I got word that its possible but qty requirements must be met. I think we would need 1 or 2 re-sellers to get in on it if it ever happened.

let them know they'll have to be willing to sell some samples to have any shot of getting it off the ground.

sunfly does a version of that chip

Not really. There are quite a few significant differences in the two chips, the biggest of which is how the chip is designed to be used: Sun-Fly hybrid blanks have a recessed center designed to take a laminated label (although they can be printed full-face without one). The GOCC Signature blank has a shallower recess, and is designed to be full-face printed to appear as if it has a printed label/inlay.

i'd imagine the GOCC chip is of higher quality.

This, for sure. I'm very surprised that they would consider offering this mold to consumers at all. Many casino chip manufacturers have historically reserved mold designs for casino-use only, under the guise of offering extra security to their casino customers. Perhaps the more modern security features now available have had an effect on that policy.

right. hence, a version of the chip, i.e., there are differences between the two products.

Not to get into another senseless war about semantics, but when there are more differences than similarities, I don't think 'a version' is very appropriate.

good job not starting an argument about semantics, then.

oops, that was suppose to be more cowbell. Oh well.

What are the recess depths on the GOCC & Sunfly hybrids?

I'll have to measure to get you an accurate answer, but it's a significant difference. Sun-Fly can easily take a PGI laminated label, so at least 6 mils. GOCC maybe 1-2 mils.

Thanks, if the GOCC SS do become are available I'm interested to see if they'll take a label.

What's the finish like in the recessed area?

I'll find out what depth the recess is from GOCC tomorrow.

They didn't disclose the actual depth but said it is not enough to apply a label. They would be avail with a decent size order. under .90 each.

Some pics...
