Judge ruled today Poker is more a game of luck than skill, cited Phil Hellmuth

Yeah, like when they played the Cowboys in the play-offs last year... :p

not that the hawks didn't get a "little" lucky the very next week though. Thanks Brandon Bostick!

Now that I think about it, what would a guy from Wisconsin know about dodging bullets. If I need that, gimme the guy from Compton any day.

Judge actually said "poker is as American as baseball" but cited a 50 year old case where the state got a conviction against somebody using this old statute that was being contested. The judge said his hands were tied, since there was already precident...

Sucks

I believe he also said "Your only option is to appeal to the Supreme Court, but that's like drawing to an inside straight."

What's fascinating is that in some states marijuana may become legal before poker does. Ten years ago you would have gotten like 50-1 odds against that happening anywhere in this country.

And yet this is legal in Wisconsin:

Go figure. Or maybe buying lottery tickets requires much more skill than I can imagine. ;)

(I know, it's all about tax revenues and connections, but it's still hypocritical IMO.)

As a member of the great state of Washington I can assure you that it's not a matter of "may become" but "is that way right now". Since about 2005 or so you can't drive more than a quarter mile in some areas of this state without seeing a green cross that symbolizes a medical marijuana dispensary. For $100 a year (the cost of your "recommendation" that you get from a "doctor" that operates out of a one room office/examination room) you can walk into a medical dispensary (that is probably owned by the guy you went to high school with who always had the best stuff) and have your pick of 20-30 different strains of very well grown pot, not to mention oil, edibles, joints, you name it. (not that I would know, but I've heard that all you would have to say is that your head hurts and when you smoke marijuana it gets better. I think a friend told me that.)

Not only that, but as of a year ago, not only do we have the medical dispensaries but Washington legalized pot for anybody over 21 to buy, posses, and consume without having to lie to a fake doctor. Now all it takes is a drivers license that says your're 21 or over and you buy it from a state licensed shop, just like private liquor stores, and the state gets 37% tax revenue on it.

All that, and if I play one hand of online poker I am a felon.

Yep, legal weed but the only state where it's specifically outlined as a felony to play poker online. The tribes have their hands deep in the pockets of the law makers up here, they do not like competition for their casinos.

The worst part of it, is that so many tribal casinos are either getting rid of, or never planned to spread any sort of poker game.

Case in point, September 1 Tulalip moves their poker room to a poker "area" with only 10 tables....
I really need to find some tribal blood, and open up a poker room.

So many ways I can think of to get a good card room going. Ugh.
