Hello all,

I just registered for the PCF forum after being away from the game for quite awhile. I'm starting the process of researching and buying a good set for a home game I wanna start.

I had a set of Paulson's about 4-5 years ago I sold on eBay cuz' I thought I wouldn't play much more. #Stupid

Anyway...looking to find some good info on a good quality set for a home game.

Any and all thoughts are welcome. Budget is $500+

Thanks,

Hello and welcome!
Since you 've owned a Paulson set, it won't take much effort for people here to talk you into tripling that budget:)

For the record...not necessarily looking for another Paulson set. They have gotten WAY too expensive. Just a great quality clay set.

I might do a custom set, if they aren't too expensive. And...$500 is the min. I'd spend...I would consider going higher.

Custom clays from CPC gonna run around $2/chip, minimum. Could be 2-3 times that, too -- all depends on your tastes.

You can get semi-custom clays (Gemaco) for around $1/chip.

Used Paulsons anywhere from 50c - $2 chip, generally. Mint chips from $2-$20 each and up.

Might want to check out 43mm Sun-Fly hybrids -- pretty decent chips, and priced under a buck.

Now's a good time to be shopping for "just a great quality clay set." If you're patient and keep your eyes open on the classifieds section here, you'll find some great options for under a buck a chip. Assuming you're willing to buy used chips, you might find some great condition used, non-paulson clays for as low as 60 cents a chip.

I'm not opposed to a ceramic set either. So it sounds like CPC is the main poker chip game in town. Is that correct?

Welcome. CPC is the main custom clay chip maker, and they have some stock designs. For stock chips, there are also the Elite chips from Apache, mage by Paulson / GPI.

Ceramics are cheaper. Depending on volume, you can get stock and custom chips from Sunfly, ABC Gifts and Awards, and GOCC.

You can also get casino used Paulson Horseshoe Cincinnati chips from the chip exchange. I believe they still have quite a few in stock. $1 and 5’s are 0.69 a piece with the higher demons being a bit more. They are a vendor here, check em out.

Are you looking for a cash or tournament set? If it is a cash set you can definitely get a set of used chips as mentioned for your budget.

If you are looking for a tournament set I’d recommend the new Gemaco chips offered by Apache or Sun-fly hybrids. Both are under $1/chip

Hello and welcome!

CPC is currently the only game in town for fully custom home-game compression clays, but we're all waiting with baited breath for ABC Gifts and Awards to make some sort of announcement about entering this marketplace., but I think prices will be the same.

Pre-owned Paulson's run the gamut from relatively cheap to really really expensive. I wouldn't want do delve in here unless your "+" in your "500+" can handle several hundred chips at $1.50-$2.00 a chip average. But there are some *excellent* deals to be had in the Classifieds, so spend some time there.

Check out the specific forum threads, no need to post in your Intro.

Welcome!

Spring Hill is right around the corner from me. As a all the smart people here will tell you "Get Samples First", I can help you out a bit. PM me, and we can meet up. I'll bring a case of samples that you can look over and get a better idea of what you want, without all the expense of buying samples individually.

I'll have some 43mm Sunfly Hybrids here in a few weeks for you to sample if you haven't purchased anything by then.

I just received several samples from a few places. The best non-paulsons I have found so far used to be called Great Wall chips and are available at GPI. The rest are very similar to each other like Milanos, Majestics, monte Carlos, but the closest I’ve seen so far to paulsons are the Great Wall chips now called med Greek mold
