So, I've had this 10 person table for about 13-14 years. It's beat up a bit. My wife bought it for me as a gift. I'm not sure what brand it is or where she got it from. I have to replace 3 cup holders. Not a big fan of the cup holders as they are too shallow. The size is 84 x 42. I would like to replace the felt but the back of it is actually stapled throughout. Just seems like it would be a pain but I've never done it. Should I try working with this table or get something else?

This table does not fold which most tables I see like this do fold.

Good morning. If you can easily remove the rail from the bottom I would say just replace the playing surface. The armrest doesn’t appear to be in too rough of shape. Replacing cup holders is very easy as well. Just remove the old cup holders and use a 2.75inch hole saw in the existing cup holder hole. You can easily replace the playing surface as well. Since the table is pretty old you may want to replace the padding underneath the playing surface. Good luck with whichever choice you make. Send me a PM if you need more info.

I second chanman, his customer service is excellent which is rare in my experience in shopping for tables. Also, if you want folding legs, inquire about gorilla legs. They are super sturdy, probably the best out there.

I'm very tempted by the Chanman tables but it may be more than I can swing at this point. I do plan to at least talk to him.

So I picked up the exact same table on craigslist and tried to salvage it. The foam under the playing surface had deteriorated so much, plus they didn't build this to be taken apart - they used so many staples. I would recommend a new one - maybe a barrington if you need one that folds.

Edit: I don’t think you can easily replace the felt, if I remember it is stapled down with a commercial plastic packing strap band.

At the very least, you can salvage the plywood + legs. Probably the rail too.

I would replace the main foam on the playing surface - but you can get away with leaving the rail and refurbishing with a hole saw as others suggested.

Buy some nice cupholders to replace the current ones after you drill the new holes.

New foam + speed cloth for the playing surface + new cupholders and you've got a nice new table!

If you're feeling ambitious, you can replace the rail as well. A bit more expensive and difficult to do but it's all part of the fun in refurbishing a table!

I have no experience with placing rail foam + vinyl, etc but it looks like a more difficult part of the process.

If you have the means and are up for it - doing a (quick) build could be done in a day or two. Just need to source the foam, but everything else is pretty easy to find.
Especially if you're thinking of salvaging this one, you might be better off doing a build, because you'll be putting in effort to essentially rebuild this table anyways. The covering the rail is the most difficult part but doable - everything else is pretty straightforward as long as you have a jigsaw, drill, staple gun, and sander (optional). I've done a few of these, and I like the results i've gotten. being able to customize the table to your specifications is always a plus too.

That's what I feared. Just didn't look easy with the amount of staples this table has.

I can imagine it would be too much of a hassle vs saving a <$40 piece of plywood haha

Probably most beneficial to save the legs if you're doing a new build (and if they legs are high enough quality for a new build)

I have a very similar table to that. Not worth trying to save anything from it.
Exactly correct. Typically cheap MDF (not plywood), crappy padding, no underlying wood or form to the rail, and a horror to take apart and reassemble with new materials.

Best three options imo are buy a Barrington (~ $125-$175) and optionally upgrade the felt and cupholders (~ $100), build a table yourself (~ $250-$300 if you already have the legs), or get a Chanman basic (~ $600 last I checked).

You might find a local builder who would do it for less considering cost plus shipping. @Jeff knows a guy if you're in the Chicago area.

I built my first table using the instructions from Scott Keen’a site. Then I found the local guy here who was about $425 for a basic table, which was a bit more than it cost me to build one, but I didn’t have to build it. The two I bought from the local guy are no where near as nice as Chanmans. I also spent money buying nicer legs and picked them up (no shipping costs!). When I buy a Chanman Table it’s going to be pimped to the max.

Thank you for all the responses. I did get a quote for a Chanman table. If I go that route, I can't just go basic, need to splurge at least a bit. I'm seriously considering it. Need to convince the wife though.....wish me luck :)

Decided on a @T_Chan table. Going to be a while due to a long list ahead of me (that part sucks :) ) but I'm very excited about it.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions and help. Need to hide my wallet for next few months now

Awesome! Pics when it’s done please

@T_Chan just sent me pictures of my table and it was like Christmas morning. I'm attaching some pics here and will add once it arrives and is setup.

I'll take some better pictures later but I'm loving this table. About to have a game with a few of my buddies.

@T_Chan Everyone loves the table and are pumped to get a game in. You do tremendous work. I will be coming to you again at some point.
