Just thought I'd share that Joey at Chips and Games has an amazing deal (10-13 cents apiece) on some Spirit Molds in a few varieties and denominations including the Casino Di Vinci and Pyramid Casino - as well as a few unlabeled ones as well. Could be a nice opportunity if you have an upcoming relabel project - these normally retail for 58 cents apiece.

A word of warning: I've had some issues with crumbling and breakage from some of the "two-color" clearance Spirit molds. By "two-color", I mean the main body color and a single edge spot color. The red with blue edge spots have been the worst offender. Noticeable also in the green with light green edge spots. The grey with black spots have been ok for the most part (a little crumbling, but less severe). Of course, for the price, I'm not complaining.

I have had no issues whatsoever with the "Pyramids" labeled ones that I've bought on clearance, including both blue $1 and yellow $500. I've also had a set that included these and lots of other "Pyramids" denominations for a LONG time (ten years or so). They've all done fine. I don't know if the label helps prevent deterioration or the versions with three colors (one body, two different edge spot colors) are a slightly different formulation or <alternate possible explanation here>.

I have no experience at all with the solid Spirit molds or unlabeled "three color" ones. Hope this helps.

I've seen no negative feedback about the chips in question. I had the same concern, but at that price I bought more than I needed and I intend to rotate stock so-to-speak. It's difficult to have high expectations at that price, but they seem to be generally well regarded overall.

FWIW, I didn't buy any of the typical cash game denominations, so it's possible the greens and reds may not have the same reputation as the higher denominations/colors.

I bought some of these as well -

Red two color - these do have some breakage to them. Maybe 20 out of the 400 I bought crumbled when I washed them or handled them. Just fell apart like dust.

Green 2 color - better than red. Maybe lost 5 out of 100

White with the label on them - very strong. Label easy to take off... no issues.

Pink three color - Decent. Lost a few - bought 150... maybe lost 5-10.

All in all they are good for the price - but no where near the quality of my majestic china clays. (In my opinion)

I have dark green on green, blue on red and black on grey and they are all pretty much unusable due to crumbling and outright breaking. The most fragile chips I have ever come in contact with. I can snap them with the smallest amount of pressure from my thumb. Not sure if this is typical but its so bad I feel like I can't even sell them on eBay with a clear conscience. Even if they were 1 cent per chip I feel like there should be the minimum expectation that they can be used as poker chips. As of now they are used as rack warmers.

I’ve got a micro stakes set of these in the works. FWIW, Joey at Chips Andy Games was terrific. The gray solids are terribly brittle, but the 3-color ones seem pretty nice. They feel much less plasticky than my Majestics, but more fragile. I’ll see how they play out.

@longflop and @MG20 have sets of these in play. Maybe they can comment.

Really would like to pick these up for the Roost chips. Going to wait for some other comments about quality however. I love the spirit mold so a great opportunity.

So far the only ones that I have had any crumbling issues with are the solids and the ones with only two colors.

I've only got the solid colors for a cash set relabel. I've had no crumbling, but I washed them, applied labels from @Gear, then hit them with a heavy coat of oil. They drank that oil up. They see monthly play. No chipping or crumbling. For what I put in to them (less than $.50 per chip) I couldn't be happier!

Any pictures?

Are you going to relabel those? Oiling will take forever, but it's worth it#

Yeah I plan on doing them a little at a time. The blue chips are singles that need to be relabeled to $100 and the pink ones are blank - so I'll do those first. The rest have the proper tournament denoms so I can get by for the time being.

Nice! 2500 total?

I’m tempted to grab more pinks and blues, even though I know my set is already plenty big for my game.

Haha I hear you - I didn't need this many but since they're on closeout, getting more in the future might be a challenge if the need arises.

But yeah, 2500 might have been a little excessive :)

whats the breakdown? that is a lot of chips! have labels designed already?

I bought 500 of each denom. I probably won't use them all in my game though. I got a little zealous when I placed my order.

Yeah I have a graphic designer on staff so I'm having her mock something up. The designs won't be done for a couple weeks though.

Why do you ask?

oh just curious to see what kind of sets people make! I didnt know if you had something planned -- i also bought some of these on clearance.. though a much smaller set - and different colors. Will do a small cash set.

I went back and forth between some Milanos and the Nexgen Classics... I'd pretty much made a buying decision when I ran across these... It's going to be a lot of work but I couldn't pass up this deal.

Can't wait to see how your set turns out!

yea - i was similar with the Milano's... and I already own a majestic tournament set - so wanted something different. I bought more of the non labeled 2 tone ones... only 7 cents each i think - so I was able to buy a large quantity cheap. The only labeled ones I purchases were the whites - which might be the ones in the best shape... no crumbling issues. Also the labels are easy to take off on these chips.

Updates on the spirit mold. White, pink, red, and orange really sturdy.
Some flaking issues with the blues.

Yellows shattered on me.

From lots of research and talk with other members I highly recommend sticking with the 8vs ABC is selling if you are worried about long term use or crumbling

@SeanGecko, I’ve got some yellows, but mine have the pink/blue edge spots. The feel pretty solid. From the pics, yours seem to be the Neapolitan ice cream ones. My gray solids are brittle like that.
