This might be helpful for people buying / collecting chips as to what happens to chips as they age. It appears that three of these chips are from Celebrity Cruises (not sure when or where I got them, but I've only been on one cruise since I was gambling age, many years ago), and two are from one of my first Vegas trips around 20 years ago. One $1 chip from Harrah's and a $1 from Bally's/Paris. I'm assuming both of those were from that same trip, although I've been back a few times since then, I didn't bring back any chips (AFAIK). Of course I wasn't tuned in to chips like I am now that I'm on this great forum (so I'll be better about my collection next time), but thought I'd put up a picture of these to show a few things that I found interesting, and get input as to what's going on from you all that definitely know better than I do.

It appears that the Celeb Cruises chips (three on the left) and the Paris chip are ceramic. The Harrah's - who knows, but it has a recess in the middle and an interesting indention/pattern around the outside. Oddly it mentions Harrah's in NO but to my knowledge I've never been in a casino in NO, so that's a little odd.

The Celebrity Cruise chips are fading badly and the printing is... bad at this point. Bleeding, discolored, all sorts of stuff. It looks like my kids got ahold of those when they were like 2 or something and chewed on them after a kool-ade drinking session, but definitely not the case. The Bally's chip looks better, but still shows some wear with the labeling or printing or whatever it is. The Harrah's chip looks great still, likely due to what I'm assuming is a sticker (although I can't find any edges and don't want to peel it up).

Anyone want to chime in with some detective / sleuthing / CSI-style analysis? :)

The Harrah’s is Paulson RHC. The symbols you see are top hat & cane. It is still a live chip, along with newer house mold.

I was going to be a smart ass and say they were special to someone that’s why they kept them. That got me thinking...I wonder if cruise ships switched to ceramics because people kept leaving them in their pockets and unable to cash them in. I can certainly see someone getting caught up in the final night at sea starting in the casino then hitting a club and forgetting to cash them in because they think they will be back.

I doubt they have all switched. The last Princess cruise I went on, they were still using majority Paulsons for their table games, except for roulette. The poker table, however, was electronic. :vomit:

Going to have to tell the wife to switch cruise lines, but we like Royal, they use ICON I believe.
