Hi, a few days ago I found this chip. It was my father's, and he obviously saved it for a reason. The most I know about it is that I saw one on eBay, and it says, "1979 Paulson H&C" Can someone please tell me about this chip? Is it of any value?
Thanks so much!

Your chip can be found here:

http://themogh.org/cgupdate/cg_chip2.php?id=NVLVST&v=1585520624

..half way down the page. Looks like there were two versions, and with releases six years apart. There are no posted chip "order cards" for this particular casino on that page which would help narrow the actual date it might have first seen the felt.

I don't have my copy of "The Chip Rack" handy. It's a catalog and (optimistic) price guide so I can't provide much more information beyond this. The only way you can really get an idea of possible value is from sold auctions, and even those might not really reflect the true value of the chip (this is hard to do without a reasonable sample size beyond one or two).

Cool find!

[EDIT] Just did a search, found a lot of four chips with three being the same as you chip that sold for $10 on August 5th, a single for $7.50 on July 24th, another single for $12.50 on June 26th, a pair for $6.05 on June 19th....

Some recent eBay sales of that chip show it between $5 and $15 depending on condition.
While not super-rare, I’m sure it holds far more sentimental value.
Very cool find indeed.

You have the earlier version, which does NOT say Las Vegas NV on it. It's a little more valuable than the later version but only a few dollars or so. If it was sharp or rolled on its edge I'd offer you $20 for it.

It has what we would call 'hooker juice' on it and its heavy, DO NOT WASH IT or try to clean it off. It will typically devalue the chip for collectors.

The sentimental value should greatly outweigh any monetary value. Your dad kept it for a reason. He must’ve had a memorable trip. Put it in an Airtight chip holder and put it in a drawer with an explanatory note… Eventually someone in the family will value it way more than the pocket change it would raise in a sale.

Or use it as your own card capper, if you play.

It will make a good "Good Luck Chip Capper" with a story to tell

The value is around $7, and I saw some very older chips like the one posted here still in use as of 2020 at Sam’s Town!

If I were you, I would clean the chip, but don’t let any water go inside the inlay. Don’t soak or spill water.

Use a Clorax. wipe, nice and gentle, then rub with a paper towel. That’s how I cleaned my older chips, without ruining it.
