Here’s a mock-up of how I plan to label-over some 43 mm Sunsets as 10K high-denom chips to go with my Jack tourney set.

For type, I used ASAP Condensed for the TAGH (J•A•C•K) header, Avenir Black for the denom, and Avenir Heavy for the Hudson Valley / Hoyle Rd. parts (DETROIT CASINO and DETROIT, MI). To make the comma and dollar sign match, I used Cabin Condensed Bold.

Each of these fonts can be downloaded for free from https://fonts.google.com ...

The photoshopped pic was swiped from @RainmanTrail ’s excellent post in the Sunset Beach pr0n thread...

Note that if you use ASAP Condensed to spell out JACK, the “C” will have a slightly different form than on the chips. I tried like heck to find a typeface which exactly matched, and this was the best I could do. If you want the Cs to match, it will probably require flattening the type layers in Photoshop or a similar program (I stopped paying for Illustrator long ago) then manually adjusting the C to have a more closed form.

P.S. The cog icon was found at http://www.vecteezy.com

Yeah, noticed that... Weird that the stock image has that problem. I’ll either adjust it in the final stages, or go with another shape. I was thinking it might be better to mirror the pointy edgespots... I don’t even have the chips yet.

Since this is a small batch, I’ll be producing these labels myself, which adds the advantage (?) of being able to to keep endlessly tweaking the design.

I recently got the Graphic app for MacOS, mainly to do type on a curve. I need to explore its full capabilities before recommending it, though.

(At tiny sizes like chip labels, I can usually get away with manually manipulating flat, hi-DPI PSDs or jpegs.)

(I haven’t decided whether to make these 10Ks or 25Ks. They will only really be needed for tourneys where we have a full turnout and the players don’t make a deal to chop once we get past the bubble... These chips would probably see more play as 10Ks but it might be kind of handy to have a chip with 1,000x the smallest chip in a T25 tourney.)

Actual 1-1/8" label over a Sunset Beach T5000 chip—prototype print, not Photoshopped:

Design notes:

(1) The $10,000 font size needs to be a little bigger/thicker (though the camera for some reason collapsed the nice crisp type on all the smaller type; it looks better in person); and the shape of the numeral “1” is wrong...

(2) The label size fills the whole inside area, which is not a perfect match for the inlays, but is necessary to ensure coverage over the Sunset Beach inlay. Using two shades of blue also helps to better approximate the true inlay look.

(3) I haven’t decided whether to make these as Jacks or the Tagh inside joke. Many players won’t even notice, either way.

(4) The faux-RFID spot needs to be blurred out more.

(5) Getting a really sharp label cut with the big-box-fabric-store-grade punch that I have is challenging. I need to find something of higher quality.

First draft of a new addition to the Jack tourney set. I kind of doubt this would get into play more than once in a blue moon, I don’t have a barrel of Sunset Beaches to play with, and label punch, so I figured what the hell.

One thing I can’t decide is whether the lettering should be oriented as shown in the picture, or 45° in relation to the edgespots. Thoughts?

I do prefer to edge spots At North East, South and North West when you look at the label properly oriented.

So in other words, the opposite of what you’ve done.

I’m gonna try it both ways. Also debating whether to darken the faux inner ring to a light gray, or a color which picks up the edge spots (maybe that green, since there is no green on the other 43mms in my set).

Another, bumped down to 20K, with a green-Blue inner ring, and oriented as suggested by the poster above.

(Part of what’s going on here is I’m thinking of bumping my Jack tourney set up to the smallest chip being 100, using my watermelons as 25s in a cash set, and buying some 1s and 5s. Then the 10K and 20K TAGHs become more useful... For that to happen, I’ll also have to score some extra 500 and 1K Jacks on Black Friday, though. And I’d have to decide what to do with my sweet PCR cash set. Decisions, decisions...)

Do you have any PSDs that I can borrow (steal) for a similar design project? Strictly mock-ups for now, but will probably go to an actual project in the next year or two.

A PSD for the $10,000 COG would be amazing if you don't mind - but no worries if you don't want to share.

I’ve actually now redone all of these with @Gear labels, plus adding three racks of faux Jack 5s. Here’s some pr0n of the reds (formerly Terrible’s Lagranges). Will post the 10K and 25K relabeled SBs later. Also going to do some racks of fracs.

These look way better than the original Jack detriots tbh - I agree with why you didn't like them, very "mcdonald-esque" haha

Nice work

Did you consider relabeling vs over-labeling? Struggling with that decision myself atm

I didn’t consider it, mainly due to cost/time considerations. Certainly the overlabels are not perfect, as great as the printing is, just because in certain light and angles you may see the very thin label edge. I need to go through all three racks and do some quality control (for placement, air bubbles, etc). But overall they are very convincing; I doubt anyone but serous chippers would notice the difference.

No doubt - they look amazing! Good luck with the rest of the set!

Family portrait (sample barrels) of my nearly-complete cash and tourney sets... I’ll almost never use the 25 cent or the $20 pieces, or the 25Ks, but it’s nice to have them. Those, the $5s, the 10Ks and the 25Ks are overlabels; the rest are Jack Detroit’s except for the $3 Cincy’s.
