25c/50c Cash Game 9 handed

Villain is extremely passive. Seen him limp behind with AA on several occasions. Known him for years and is very passive, check/calling with boats on not scary boards, etc.

Effective stack: $92

Hero is in the BB with :9c::8h:

Several limpers including villain who is on the button. I check and see a flop with 6 other players (7 players total).

Flop: :th::7x::6h:

Pot: $3.50

SB checks.
Hero bets $3
2 callers.
Pot: $12.50
Villain on button reraises it to $20.
SB folds.

I know villain enough to really narrow him down. Possibly 98 as well but unlikely since we have it. Any draw, he's just calling.

He's either got TT or 77, he doesn't even do this with 66 for bottom set here.

Hero?

jamming is ok cuz looks like your drawing hearts and playing aggressive.

Heart turn is bad as it kills action.

Raising to 40 is the same as all in as the money gets in on the turn anyway.

rainbow flop I smooth call.

flush draw flop I jam.

That's what I thought. My friend argued with me after the fact that I could've just called to "make sure the board didn't pair on the turn before getting it in" which I thought sounded stupid so thought I'd get a couple more opinions. I don't claim to be an expert, just enjoy playing. :)

wait to ensure board doesnt pair.....? thats silly.

get money in with the best hand

You cant worry about re draws.

My friends logic was "We know he has a set here, so he's getting it in regardless. Nothing is going to scare him on the turn. So let a card peel before you commit yourself."

Believe me, I found it stupid but I am the most poker savvy/student of the game in my circle (not saying much) and sometimes I listen to them too much and question myself lol.

Of course my friend said this, thinking results oriented.

Action goes:

Villain reraises to $20
SB folds.
Pot: $32.50
Hero pushes all in for $88, $68 more.
Villain calls and shows :tc::ts:
Turn: :6c:

And that's poker folks.

Honestly, can't be mad. It's a hand one of us is likely going broke on. Just figures, I went on a heater about 5-6 weeks back and have been card dead ever since. Breaking even/slightly turning profit in my games by stealing pots here and there, pushing thin value and being right, making good folds when beat etc. Finally see my double up moment and got cold decked.

thats why its best to get all in on the flop. You avoid a difficult turn decision IF the board pairs.

If you have the nuts on any street and you can get all in then you always should.

Anyone that says otherwise is leaving money on the table.

Your loss was just variance.
