Floor under your table/chairs (1 Viewer)

My room is completely carpeted. I'd like a more flat surface under the table/chairs. Almost like just putting a laminate flooring in just that section. However, being over the garage, the floor would get cold. Any ideas for simply placing a hard surface over the carpet? I know some laminates can be placed over carpet, but not sure of the success. I just would like to be able to roll chairs a bit easier. I'd rather not redo the carpet in the entire room, but maybe that's necessary to just do a tight pile and end it.

I bought a 5 x 5 glass mat for the home office about 9 years ago. I dropped a hammer on it once. It survived a move. No chips, cracks, etc.

Color me interested.... I am in my office right now. My chair is on a Staples chair mat, which is on top of 4 pieces of laminate, which is on top of carpet, which is to say, I need a solution in here as well! Thanks
