First real attempt harvesting (1 Viewer)

Dont take their racks, just chips. I recall a thread about security griefing a harvester about taking racks. It is easy to buy 2 racks at the poker cage, go to an empty table and sort and take back the unwanted, or take them to go to your room (again not the racks).

Just collecting while playing craps at various casinos. 21 Jerry’s nugget and 10 Ellis islands only touched by 3 people... the cage, my fiancé, and I

Wow really solid job for your first time! I’ve only harvest MA chips and they just about give them to you with compliments, all you have to do is ask. Unfortunately the chips are mostly nothing to look twice at.

Nice haul! Your hired! Lol If your looking for a harvesting job let me know, also I’d be interested in purchasing all of these if u ever decide to sell please lmk.

Well one last stop at Sams Town before driving home rounded out the trip. All in all this was a great experience. We branched out “off the strip” and found a couple pretty cool spots. We absolutely loved Sams town even though we were only there maybe 2 hours tops. Ambiance was great there, or at least to us and first time seeing a bowling alley with people actually bowling since pre pandemic. Jerry’s nugget 3 dollar craps.

Trip started with a stop at Jokers Wild on the way into Vegas. And got my players card and all gitty..... no craps table. Back to the cashier “do you guys have any chips as souvenirs?” “No, and I’m not sure they will bring back craps”. So we left smelling like an ashtray and off to Paris (originally booked Planet Hollywood but they moved us because PH is closed during the week).

Posted about first session already, and thought I would hit Bally’s a lot harder because I had my best roll there and those tables were hard! But the lady and I love Ellis island. Went every day and played 4/5 days. Easily pocketed roughly 20 chips each day. One of the first days at Ellis island I asked for some ones for change and that’s when the cashier gives me 5 and says “here’s 5 these are brand new never been used” that’s when I got my first taste of NEW CHIPS! And I couldn’t get it out of my mouth! She seemed excited to tell me they were new.

Stopped at circus circus one night but again.... “no craps till Friday” (Casino was DEAD), well we said let’s go, and I went back to cashier put $22 down and said “can I buy some chips?” She said “how many, like one?” I said “can I get more than that?” She said “like one?” I said “I’ll take whatever you can give me” she turned and asked someone “can I get 10 dollar chips” I jokingly said “ok, I’ll take 20 if you can” she came back and said “I’ll give you 10, we usually only give out one” I talked with her for about a minute or so about my last time here was as a child probably around 1994. She was very nice and accommodating.

Another session at Paris while lady was at the gym.

Had emailed Jerry’s nugget week before going inquiring about craps and table games manager told me he would comp me 20 bucks for the restaurant there! Well we went, it’s prob in the worst part of Vegas but we enjoyed this casino pocketed about 30 chips, while at the cashier cashing out with a win, I asked “do you have and good looking dollar chips?” (I could literally hold 4-5 chips in the air with just the top chip.) well he says “sure I can get you 10 we have some new ones in the back.” Well hell I got that taste again and was pondering how to complete my barrel. Asked the lady she’s like “you are crazy, you need to stop” so I said screw it went up with 12 bucks and just said “I’m trying to complete a barrel do you think I could get 10 more of those new ones those are nice!” He looked perplexed “what, a barrel?” “Yeah a barrel of 20” “sure I’ll be right back” gave him the 2$. Fiancé actually took a picture of me at the cage because she thought I was that “crazy”

Back to Ellis island. Left with more, asked cage if I could get some of those new $1 chips they look nice, “ we can give you 5.

Last day hit Ellis one more time just to eat , new cage lady and just went and asked about the new ones and I was looking for a shuffle stack. “Shuffle stack?” “Yes, basically 10 chips” well she says no problem counts out 10 gently used chips then exchanges them for 10 mints! Next hit Westgate and Fremont got some Circas and a single from other places we played.

On the drive home tried Sams town and got some there.

Paris, Bally’s, Circa and Sams would not sell/exchange chips for me. Paris I asked a dealer hey you have change for a 10 he jokingly said I’ll give you 9 I need to make a profit, I said sure 9 is fine he said “no no no” and got 10 just like that.

Ellis, Jerry’s and maybe circus circus would exchange.

Almost every cage/cashier where I tried to exchange I would ask with an extra 2 bucks. Everyone one of them looked perplexed what the 2 dollars was for them was very thankful.

Total 241 $1, 7 $5.
41 brand new!
Condition circa and Ellis best. Few good Bally’s and flamingo. Few good Sams. Tried to post some pics for future harvests.
Was harvesting what I thought were “good” at Paris and circa they all looked good, Sams and Jerry’s most juice and tires.

Again I would say I was at best “casually” harvesting. Really just playing craps whenever the lady wanted to. Fun experience and this chip journey has taken me to 3 new places I never would have even thought of going. Sorry for the long winded post.... just sharing my experience.

Congrats, dude! Great write up and a great haul. Is Jerry's Nugget easy to get to from the strip?

Just head north on LV Blvd a few miles past all the big hotels. I wouldn’t go at night though that’s a rough part. But casino felt safe.

Cheers dude, much appreciated!

Great tips for my next trip to Vegas. At Greektown no one's ever said a word with my pockets stuffed like a cartoon character at the craps table. I tip well and prob give them a good laugh for my ineptitude at the same time so maybe that's a partial explanation.

Do the casinos really frown much on harvesting chips? I can see on francs and ones since they cost more to buy then the face value, but otherwise aren’t they profiting? I’ve been taking a $5 chip from almost every casino I’ve played at for decades & never had a problem, but one chip is easy to hide.

It's "generally" frowned upon. The chips are the property of the casino, and represent a direct cash liability. Having said that, enforcement of the rules does vary. Likely nobody will create a big stink if a few low denomination chips go missing now and then, because it's not much of a loss to them. I'm sure they don't mind $5 chips going out, not only because they cost way less than that to replace, but they are a good source of promotion/advertising for them (look at how many casinos love to do commemorative $5 chips). They don't really like higher denom chips to go out the door, because of potential counterfeiters.

When I USED to play poker at Cali card casinos, I used to just go get a rack from the cashier and take it with me to my table so I didn’t have to wait to buy in. I even took a rack of chips home one time just for fun, and then took it back next time I went to play. Nobody cared I was cruising around with a rack of chips in plain view. Getting racks was super easy. I never considered actually keeping one at the time. The chip holders (racks) were all over the place just lying around. I used to see them on the floor, under the tables, etc.
Exactly just go to a limit poker game $4 $8 they'll give you all the $1's you could want. Enjoy sorting them the entire time at the table.

It's the cheapest souvenir you can take home. They know people collect them and take them home as a souvenir. Their unit costs are much lower than ours.

anyone have racks of jerrys nuggets for sale??

Well first night in Vegas stopped at Ellis island. Craps is my jam. Few orbits with 6 shooters and I had 10 red chips and about a barrel in my pocket. Picked em up and left to sit with the lady playing video poker. Well she wanted to roll one more time. We go back I add 20 bucks to my stack and she rolls twice and we’re up to about 165.

Put the chips in to color up and pit boss says “if you give me those 2 greens you left with earlier I can give you 2 blacks.” I told him “I wish I had greens” he apologized and said “I’m sorry the lady said she saw you walk off with some greens earlier “ I then said “ I had a few ones” and that was it. Then picked up 4 more souvenirs at the cage. I was nervous as could be.

Got 26 of em. Looks like new chip is hotstamped!

How was your first time really trying to harvest chips?

My first time harvest was with a buddy who had a fanny pack. It made it so much easier I went out and scoured all the Vegas shops until I found one for myself. We left with a hoard of chips.

I’m still kicking myself. I was at circus circus January 2019, and went to play craps and noticed that their chips were brand spanking new. They were super rough and not worn in at all. I asked the pit boss if they just got new chips, and they said yeah. It NEVER occurred to me that I should grab as many as I could and build my own set out of them. I was there for a week. I probably could have scored hundreds if not 1,000 of those. I could have enlisted my coworkers to help harvest. But it never crossed my mind as I didn’t have the chipping bug yet

It's how you offset the losses of craps lol. Lose a couple hundo on some cold dice, harvest a rack to make it up.
