First Project: Craigslist Paulson Find! (2 Viewers)

Oh yeah, I paid $325
O..M..G...This is awesome. I am jealous. Good pics of the best and worst, too. Here are some thoughts.
  • I agree with others there's no rush, unless you get pressure from the wife for storage room that it takes for 3700 chips!
  • Whether or not you're going to keep any for yourself, think about how the chips would best be divided into playable sets (which is probably how you will get the most bang for the buck and your time when you sell), here are some suggestions:
    • For sets, people here on PCF tend to like full racks when buying sets, so if there are exact quantities of 100s of chips, I'd recommend keeping them in those quantities for resale. (i.e. don't sell individual chips or sample sets if it would cause a rack to have just 99 chips).
    • A large set may be around 1000 to 1400 chips (or more!); smaller sets tend to be around 400 to 600 chips; and you also might find interest in a rack or two (100 to 200) $1s.
    • A large limit poker set may include 800 to 1000 $1s and maybe a rack of the Yellows or Purples to use as high denom ($20 or $25), and/or a rack of $0.25 to use as ante chips.
    • A large no-limit poker set might include 800 to 1000 $5s and 200 to 400 $1s and maybe even 1 rack of the $0.25 or other colors. (I'd second the request above to keep most or all of the $5s together)
    • Smaller sets for flexible/smaller stakes games might include 1 rack of $0.25 and/or the solids and 3-6 racks of $1.00
    • Keep a tally of what people ask for in PM, even if you're not replying until much later.
    • The $5s and $0.25 chips will probably be the most desirable for sets, given the fewer numbers compared to the $1s. I'd guess the $1s would be the hardest to sell.
  • It looks like there are only a handful of $1 chips in new condition. Unless you can put together a few complete barrels or rack of the near-mint $1s, these may be better sold individually or as a 'bonus' for sales -- i.e. include one new 1 along with every rack or two of $1s bought.
  • I'd second the 'no cleaning' rule if many of the hotstamps on used chips still have the gold foil. Some cleaning methods might damage the foil hotstamps.
  • You can test out cleaning and oiling (with mineral oil or baby oil) on a couple of dirty blue $1s.
  • If a chip has faded over time, oiling should deepen the color and make it more uniform color, especially for dark colors.
  • Are there actually different shades of blue chips, or do the faded chips just need oiling to darken them up, or that the dirty chips need cleaning, or combination of the two.
  • I'd recommend you sort the $1 chips by shade and condition. Sets may be more desirable with similar condition chips.
Ok, that was a lot longer than I expected, but hope some of it helps.

Did the seller say how she came by so many of these chips (without understanding their value)? I tend to assume that these were inherited from a relative or something...

She runs an estate sale business and purchased these for her own use from such a sale she was coordinating. I didn't get the backstory on the previous owner, though.

Used, authentic casino THC Paulsons for dice-chip prices? Holy mother fracker, I think I would've pooped my pants while trying to talk the sweet lady down from $400. But for real tho, it's stories like these from @navels and @muggles that makes me think one day... i too can hit the jackpot, right? No?

Congrats on your find @navels, what a treasure trove!!
