As you can tell from my post count, I'm fairly new to the poker chip scene. My collection so far consists of a couple of used sets I purchased here recently (800-chip Majestics tournament set and 1000-chip cash set of PGI Private Cardroom CCs). I've recently started looking out on Craigslist for any potential local finds and hit the jackpot this weekend.

Here's the thread I started in the craigslist subforum:

https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/local-seattle-casino-chips.21273/

The chips were part of an estate sale. She had about 1700 chips but when I agreed to take them all she said "well, gee I've got more inside the house if you want me to bring them out" :)

Total count: 3700 chips.
Mold: THC (SCV)
Casino: Joker's Seattle, WA
Chip Guide: http://www.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=WASEJC

Breakdown:
Yellow NCV: 100
Purple NCV: 300
Pink 25c: 300
Blue $1: 2010
Red $5: 1000 (edit: 988 upon recount)

Note that the Purple NCV is not in the chip guide. I'll add it when I get the chance.

Oh yeah, I paid $325 :)

Condition: As you can see from the pictures, they are very dirty and somewhat worn. They smell like cigarette smoke. The chips are hot stamped and so most of the stamps are partially or completely worn off. They otherwise seem to be in good condition, assuming they will clean up well. There are very few nicks on the edges. Many of the Blues are scuffed/worn. Almost all of the Blues and all of the Pinks have worn/rounded edges, the rest of the chip edges are nice and sharp. The Purple and Reds stack perfectly, many of the rest stack quite well with a little wobbling of some of the Blues. (I haven't done an exhaustive assessment, though.)

There are some minty Purples, Blues, and Reds, but the single frac pictured was the best I could find :)

At this point I'm not quite sure what to do with these but I'm thinking of doing the whole cleaning/relabeling shebang. I'm in the middle of a job search so the project will have to go on the back-burner until that is done. In the meantime, any suggestions or advice would be most welcome!

NICE JOB DUDE!!!!! Very cool that a new member got a score like this.

What to do with them?? Well, it looks like it's time for an ultrasonic cleaner from Amazon to show up on your door step some time soon. Read some of the cleaning/oiling threads and you are going to have some Paulson goodnees looking better/good/awesome in no time.

After that? Whatever you want. Play them or put together a set or two to post to the classifieds and build a bank roll for a set you really want or customs. These chips have a lot of cool things going for them like a good mold and the city says Seattle (which I like because a lot of WA chips are from the smaller cities), plus they are hotstamps and blue 1s. I think they would draw some interest if you sell them, I know I would be.

Congrats, nice score, whatever you do with them you found a gem which is one of the best parts of this hobby!!

Nice to see the pics. Congrats!

I would decide what I'm keeping, and think about carefully cleaning those. (Read the threads about cleaning hotstamped chips).
Whatever you may sell, I'd recommend not to clean those.

Some people are picky about how the chips are cleaned.

Added pictures of the worst of the worst. And no, I didn't pick up any of those Beatles records :) The comics were gone and I'm convinced that sea serpent puppet is cursed.

Ah, interesting, hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

Okay quick before my wife gets home and sees what I spent so much money on, can someone give me a ballpark value on this haul? Probably hard to do with the condition being so varied but I need something to explain away that $325 :)

3700 chips at roughly $0.60 each (and I'm probably being conservative), you're easily in the $2000+ range.

Poor condition solids - $0.25-$0.35
Good condition solids - $0.50-$0.70
Poor condition spotted - $0.60-$0.70
Good condition spotted - $1.00+

Some people will pay more or less, but that's how I estimate around $0.60 each

I think you better sell them to me for $400 and brag how you just made $75 with minimal effort.

Grats on the great pickup! It is wonderful when a bit of careful searching uncovers a haul like this one.

Value? Well that is hard to say. It depends on how much the local flavor excites buyers and exactly how many "good" condition chips you have once you clean them up. $2,000 for sure, but that would be a floor I think.

I strongly encourage you to do nothing more than clean up these chips and take a bit to clearly decide what you want to do with this windfall. It is not a good time to make a hasty decision. This is a once-in-a-lifetime catch. Please ponder your options carefully rather than snap up one of the offers that will flood your in-box.

Perspective - - - Most of us didn't have 3,700 Paulson chips two years after we started down this path. Some of us don't have 3,700 Paulson chips at all.

Lastly, a cautionary note for us all. Our families may not really know what our chips are worth and could easily fire sale them after our deaths or incapasitasion etc. Please leave a special note in your final papers about the disposition of your chips. Maybe even get a "chip executor" to handle this.

Just saying none of us knows when our final day is -=- DrStrange

Good post, as usual.

Point in case, look at what you bought them for. Obviously someone did not know the value and fire sold them.

My wife won't do that, cause she sees what I pay for my chips ( believe me I hear about it), but my kids would value them about as much as dice chips at a garage sale.

Awsome pick up........I love those hot stamp 5s

Would definatly be interested in the 5s if you do decide to sell.

That said....... if I were you i would probably keep them

When else are you ever going to get a chance to own this many paulson chips for 325 dollars.

Never again is the correct answer lol

Ive been searching craigslist for years and never found something like this.

Sweet score! Essentially, you snagged 10 racks of awesome $5 chips at an incredible buy-one-get-five deal, plus picked up another 2700 chips for free. Doesn't typically get any better than that. You get racks and chip trays, too?

Ball-park, I'd value the total find at around three grand, give or take a few hundred. Sweet indeed. (y)

Ten racks of great/good condition casino $5s are pretty hard to come by. Considering how many folks around here scramble daily to achieve such a set, I'd hate to see those ten racks get split up, ever.

My inbox is quickly filling up with interested buyers for the $5s. They are quite lovely.

Not considering any offers at this time, though. That may change in a month or two after my job search is done.

If you were going to sell the 5s I would reccomend doing an auction

You will get their true value, and at the same time, give everyone a chance to buy them.

I know you are not selling right away, or maybe at all.

But if you do sell any or all of the chips I would reccomend an auction.

I dont know what exactly they would go for, but spotted casino hot stamp 5s usually sell pretty well.

Those purple chips are really cool too, and should sell easily.

The porrer condition chips might be harder to sell, but im sure you could find a buyer for those as well.

I prefer the solids, so I would not bother you about the 5s. Haha!

A cool micro cash set would be a couple hundred NCV as nickels, a couple hundred quarters, and a couple hundred 1s, maybe a rack of 5s if your stakes get HUGE.

Those hot stamped $5s are sick... and they look to be in great condition.

Even if you only got the $5s... 1000 chips at that price is a total score/steal... and you got way more than that!! So congrats!!!!

@navels , I had a similar score last year though not as big. I was just gonna say to expect tons of requests. (We're all degens, can you blame us?).

It's a year later for me, and I'm still not sure I want to sell any. Although I only use a small portion of the set each week, I did have one opportunity to use a good portion of the chips at a bigger cash game we held. We might do that again, so I'm not in any rush to sell any yet.

Just thought I'd give you an opinion of someone who has been through this.
Unless something comes up that you absolutely need funds, I would wait quite a few months to a year to see how often and how many of them you get in play.

Also, if I (we) ever decide to cut some loose, it doesn't feel right to separate them all (like @BGinGA and @bentax1978 said). I'd keep enough for myself, then probably offer the chance to someone else to purchase the entire remaining lot before splitting up. There's people on here trying since forever to put a large set together.

Take your time, and enjoy. ;)

Congrats, great score. Glad a new member got these. I had a similar score several years ago and it allowed me to purchase several sets down the road. Additionally, it allowed many members access to chips that they would not have otherwise had.

Keep all the $5's together!!!

You may think that is way more than you need, but you don't know how your game will evolve 5-10 years from now.

If you get 2 tables going of $1/1 you will be very happy to have 1000 $5's then. 400 $1's is plenty for no limit and pot limit games for 2 tables.

If you plan to play limit games you'll want 1000 of those as well.

I don't know if any other chips from this casino are out there in quantity so anything you end up selling may not be able to be replaced later on down the road.

Nice find and enjoy!
