Hey everybody, I've crept this forum some years ago when I was curious of paulson chips back in the day then I sort of deemed it unrealistic to spend that type of money on chips but I've never stopped wanting a nice set of chips. I've just recently bought a poker table and now I've got the itch to buy a nice set again lol. Just thought I'd make an account and introduce myself. Looking to educate myself on poker chips maybe spend some money in the classifieds or group buys in the near furture. Are there any recommendations on must read threads? Will be looking for advice on what chips to buy in the future it's pretty overwhelming so far.. Seems like a lot of guys are spending $2k+ on sets around here are those more just collectible sets or are people using those to play games with? Anyways sorry for my rambling lol looking forward to learning more!

Welcome! Most sets here are intended for play and get used. I've got $5k in *one* of my sets. But this is only because I truly wanted and had to have this specific set. You can find a set of casino used paulsons for much less than $2k and they will still have lots of life left! There are other options like China Clays, that are much less expensive and still serve the exact same purpose as Paulsons. A nice example to check out is the royals from Apache, they are 43mm, not your standard 39mm, nice color combos and come labeled with denoms or in blanks you can customize your own labels. As noted above, you'll need to establish cash or tournament play and number of players (rebuys if applicable) to determine a breakdown. Once you establish a budget you can build your set breakdown to fit within what you want to spend. Good luck on your poker adventure!

Thanks for gathering threads that's awesome I'll start taking a look through those threads.

Just out of curiosity when you spend 5k on a set can you expect to make your money back if you ever chose to sell it? Do people generally take a loss on their chips or do they grow in value in time ?

Welcome to the forum! I'm in my second month of membership and have spent under $300 for a gorgeous China Clay set -- which has impressed my poker group. It's easy to see how chip purchase can progress, but that decision is up to each member.

Here's a thread that I started that has some spirited conversation for how to start out --> https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/china-clay-poker-chip-cash-set-comparison-picture.51383/

Cost-wise, this is the bottom line for some popular options - and as mentioned in every thread on the subject, get samples first:

500 new ABS-slugged chips start at $25
500 used China Clay chips start around $100
500 used Ceramic chips start around $100
500 new China Clay chips start at $170
500 new (good quality) Ceramic chips start around $300
500 used, average condition Paulson chips start at $500
500 new, CPC clay (Paulson-like) chips start around $950
500 excellent Paulson chips start around $1000 and go way up ($10,000+)

Enjoy the ride!

Welcome sir! Have fun here above all.

Lots of great threads, information and alot of pictures to sort through.

Nothing beats a good amount of samples to help you make your choices.

Cheers

Welcome to the site. Or welcome back? I bet you wish you had bought Paulsons back then as oppose to now with today’s prices.

Thanks for all the welcome guys!

Lol absolutely I was finally ready to drop $800 on a paulson set but now they seem like they're all over $1500 so I'm back to feeling the same way I did years back haha.
