Hi PCF Community,

My name is David, this is my first post.

I'm 35 this Feb, born and raised and Jersey, and live in Jersey. My late Grandmother taught me how to play poker as a child, and I started playing with friends for what ever money we had around 16 (when the poker boom happened). I had a 6 month period of being unemployed back in 2014-2015, I played 1-2 and was able to survive. And when I lived in NYC, I would play in a 3-6 game from time to time. It was in 2017 when I first stumbled upon CPC, made a login, and created some presets.

A close friend and I are getting back into poker. On a random weeknight, once a month (after the kids are asleep) we're making our way to the casino, the same one I played 1-2. I went back to CPC and my login and presets are still there!

I joined this forum because one day I plan on buying my own custom set and want to learn from real poker chip hobbyist. I've already learned a bunch by reading some of the pinned threads (recommended denominations) and have seen some of the chips you all have made - very cool!

NOTE - I have a personal affection to the blue chip! From reading the forum I see the blue chip ($10) is essentially not recommended and a waste chip, and I'm aware it doesn't really exist in the casinos for poker. And if I ever get a set I wouldn't plan to put the dollar amount on the chip, so it could be flexible for it's use (.25, .5, 10) based on the stakes.

It's likely I won't buy a custom set anytime soon, it seems like for a L1 500 chip set from CPC you're looking to spend at least $800; but if things go well at the 1-2 table I could have that in a handful of sessions. Plus, I already have a 500 set in those common, plastic/ceramic "dice" set, which work fine. Additionally, I don't play many home games - so the custom set would just sit there unused. Not that that's a problem, but I hope one day to host more house games, and then it would make more sense to me to invest in a custom set. Lastly, I tend to like an "old school" look (not many spots, no inlay, maybe a simple hot stamp). I'm starting to try and search for a "stock" clay set with no inlay or spots, just a mold.

Anyway, nice to meet you all and I'm looking forward to learning from you and browsing the forum.

Best - David

Welcome to PCF!

I also have a personal affection to blue chips. My CPC mockups always had way to much blue. I ended up ditching CPC for now and going with a re-label project.

Hello and welcome!

If you like blue, use it for your $1, very common colour and practically guaranteed for Cali progressions.

CPC does offer a stock Atlantic Club hot stamp, I think. But simple inlays come with cost included in CPC sets, so don't shy away. Inlay design is where you can really get creative!

Hey and thanks!
I appreciate your input. Not a bad idea to use blue as my $1, I'll have to give that some more thought - I do like the whites.
Yes I see the Atlantic Club hot stamp! I like the look, I could see doing something similar except without the denomination on the chip.
And I think you're right, Inlays seen to give you much more flexibility with your logo.
Thanks for the reply.

Welcome to PCF! If you like it simple, no spots and flexibility, consider a starburst set. You get the THC mold, many times they are leaded as well, and a lot of bang for your buck. By the way, CPC will sell you no inlay solid chips and no inlay spotted chips in various molds, just look at the top part of the price list. Good luck on your journey.

Hi and welcome !
Blue chips are also used as $1 (see Cali colors or some Vegas $1).

But feel free to use the colors you like since it'd be your custom set.
Starting with CPC is the way to go - if it fits your budget - in my opinion even though it's a lengthy process, from selected the spots, the colors, the mold, the validation of colors and mold with samples, the design and then the production wait time.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll have to look up what this starburst set is.

I have plenty of time, I only get to go to the casino once / twice a month, it’s gonna take me a while to work up a bankroll to buy some chips.

Welcome to PCF! The blue dollar is not just a Cali thing.

I’ve seen this while searching thru the website, very nice looking chips.

And wow that mint green $3 chip is very cool. Do you play with these or are they collectors pieces?

All my ones are blue chips or alts. White ones is SO 2009. View attachment 1031050
This is a beautiful thing! I’m starting to wish I didn’t like the white chip too, and make blue chip $1. I have time, so maybe my mind will change as I learn there are other “blue chippers” out there. I’m sure if I lived in Cali & not Jersey, blue chip $1 would be a given.

Thanks Kid.

I’m going to investigate something called a starburst set, but yes I think CPC will be in the future. I like their history (Rounders), and their tool is very fun to mess around with.

I’ll make some other threads, asking for peoples thoughts / opinions, in time as I digest more information.

The chips in that pic don't belong to me, although I do have a couple of them, including the lovely mint green $3. These are "live" chips currently in use at the Aria casino in Las Vegas. But we did use them to create a tribute set made by our Chinese "Cards mold" ceramic chip supplier.

A couple of years ago a member here had a tournament set designed using the upper denominations from Aria as inspiration. Then I was tasked with creating a cash set about a year ago. I really loved all the different chip colors and designs, but most people here don't use $3 or $10 chips, so I redeployed those designs to be fractional chips in the set. Here is the complete set we came up with.
