If it's age you're on about, then grumpy grandpa Bag's advice should be heeded twice over. Double your lifetime of messed up pots, erroneous all in calls, fights at the table, and wasted money on gear. There's a reason that most of us who host games try to mirror a set of standardized rules - in the past we've seen it go bad quickly, and that shit sucks.
Call it efficient, or nitpicky, or whatever you want, but people who pass DOWN advice (not offering it, telling it) do so because in the long run there's a right way to run a game, and you'll end up with more headache than fun if you do it "your way".
