So I've come across this recently.

Obviously it needs new cloth, but for me the bigger question is how difficult would it be to fill in that chip tray and to complete the rail and close in that dealer slot. Anyone have any experience with doing this that might have some pointers?

I think the drop slot is cool. I'd use it to put bills in for buys and rebuys. I don't see a box under though.......sure you can buy one cheap enough.

As far as how hard it is to fill in the chip tray, all you need is wood, saw, a ruler, and a few sliding door latch locks under the table. shouldn't be more than a 2 hour project if you have a workshop.

Yeah in his post he says the lock box for the drop slot was cut off but he still has it. This was a casino table previously. I'd probably keep that as well. I'd just want the rail closed in and the chip tray removed and filled. That and a new speed cloth. He's asking 200 for it.

Closing in the rail will be significantly harder than filling the dealer spot. I would think of leaving the rail as is. It can certainly be done, but it would require a total rebuild of the rail.

I am in the process of doing the same thing with one of my tables. My plan is to plug the dealer tray opening with speed cloth covered plywood and build a short rail to bridge the gap. It's not a perfect solution, but it will make the table more playable.

I plan on redoing the cloth and maybe the pad depending on it's condition. So I guess that would give me a good chance to patch it and have it not visible at all, but yeah the rail will probably be a pain.

Are you planning on replacing the playing surface foam as well? If you are, then you can plug the chip tray hole with some scrap and fill any gaps with putty.

Yeah I'm just gonna cut a piece of similar thickness wood and patch it in the hole and fill the cracks with glue. Don't have the felt off yet so not sure how bad the foam is but I plan on replacing it either way.

I did some crude work with a new felt from eBay some foam padding from Walmart. It's not the best looking but it works for our little games.

Did you just not want to resurface the whole table? Looks like it works fine, I'd just be worried that a card might catch on it. Do you use a dealer or just rotate dealing?

It's such a small fix, no need to resurface imo.
It's at a downward angle away from the player so cards can't catch.
Both, pass the deal in the beginning, then I usually deal near the middle to end.

Sounds like it works fine then. I'm going to pick my table up today, had to borrow a trailer so I get to start the long process of resurfacing, probably redoing the foam, filling the chip tray hole, and deciding if I want to redo the rail to fill in the dealer slot.

Anyone have any experience playing a regular game on a table with a dealer slot? Is it a major inconvenience or is it purely a cosmetic issue?

So got the table finally. It needs work but man is it solid. It was a real casino table 20+ years ago at a local casino. They cleared them out to get tables with their logos and stuff on them. I've got plans but just curious what you guys think about the bones. It for sure needs new surface and pad, I'm still unsure what I wanna do with the chip tray, maybe get a better tray or enclosed tray or just fill it in. The bill slot is staying for sure, just gotta get a plunger and need to either replace the cash box or get a new lock. Feel like the sky is the limit.

So I'm trying to keep my table junk confined to here as much as possible. I have the chip tray and bill slot filled in. Sanded flush I've initially cut my foam to the size of the table. What I'd like to know is what are the positives and negatives to stopping the foam to just inside the rail or running it all the way to the edges of the table. I just worry that my skills aren't near as good as @T_Chan and I'm gonna end up butchering it when I cut it to size.
Just to be safe and cover my bases I went ahead and marked the table where the foam would be placed if cut to just inside the rail.

Well my paranoia led me to going an extra half inch inside my line from the rail but it turned out ok. Got the padding around my dealer slot insert. Hopefully I'll get it wrapped in vinyl tonight. It won't match the rest of the rail but I think that will be fine. I'm more concerned with how the pad and the cloth will work at the dealer slot since I'm gonna have to staple it over the edge on that. Guess I'll deal with that when my cloth comes in

Curious what type of foam you used to replace the old stuff? How’d the build turn out? Anything you wish you knew in retrospect?

I’m gearing up to fill in my dealer tray too as I get this Jack felt into commission.
