I have been working on these for a few weeks and finally had some time to get my mock together and in inkscape. These are for an upcoming cards mold GB.

Any feedback is welcomed. I'm not a designer by any means, but I really want to make this set my own.

Since first joining this forum I've really loved the Aurora Star Cash set, and Empress Star Primary Tournament set. But once I started digging in these sets I knew I would never quite be dedicated enough to purchase them at their going rates. So I wanted to do the next best thing and get some customs based on those sets. I mostly play cash games with my group, so I decided to start there. In addition, I also didnt want to make just a 1:1 copy of the Aurora Stars, but make a comprehensive set (cash and tournament, maybe some secondaries down the line). Also these are not Aurora Stars, and I make no effort in my mind to say that they are. My aim is to make some good looking ceramic chips.

I've worked over the name quite a bit, and have been through a few alterations. I wanted to keep 'Star' somewhere in the name as a nod to all of the "xxx Star" sets. But I really didnt like how my stars came out and really liked the anchor clip-art I found.

But based on some feedback from another member on my inlay feedback post I decided to strip it down and keep it simple. With just the name, symbol, and denomination.

I first referenced the colors used on the poker chip tool as @Tommy et al have really worked to nail down as close to Paulson colors as possible. Then converted the HEX to CMYK. Then moved those colors to Pantone to get the best match then used the Pantone CMYK for this mockup. I also worked to cut down the color pallet, as it seems to be pretty common for colors to be altered by the manufacturer to simplfiy printing and colors. So I wanted to do that as much as possible to retain as much color control as possible.

My colors for reference:

Sorry to be critical, but I'd be embarrassed if the best "my own" I could come up with was a straight copy of the Aurora Stars, or anything else, with the equivalents of labels added.

Surely you can do better...
I mean fair. Maybe not the best choice of words on my part. The point is to be a tribute set, not something genuinely unique. I guess what I'm looking for is constructive feedback on how to make it better, to refine it. It being an Aurora Star Tribute set. I'm only about a handful of inkscape videos in so I'm pretty lost with most of this, so I'm just trying to get better.

I'm not feeling the name "Anchor Star".

Since as of recently there is now officially a 5th Ocean in the world, why not try "Southern Star"? Or even "Atlantic Star", just as long as you don't think of the R&B group with the 80s hits first.
I like Southern Star. The only thing that has me against Atlantic Star is that it is a real cruise line. I even toyed around with Gulf Star since when I go to a beach I go to the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks!

I'm not a fan of the font, I'd prefer something more uniform and bolder
Thats fair, fonts are something I havent toyed around with much. I honestly just picked this font because it is the font from Titanic....

Thanks!

One suggestion to consider: when you're centering the denominations, you'll want to center them without the currency symbol, and then add the symbol back in while keeping just the numbers centered. The "centeredness" of them comes visually only from the numbers, not the numbers + symbol.

I have always loved the AS chips. I like the inlay and also the name as well The only thing I would personally change is have the denomination slightly smaller and the logo portion slightly larger. But that’s just a personal sizing presence. Also what @CrazyEddie said about centering the denom number only, not taking into consideration the symbol.

Great job and thanks for posting the color info as well!

Well, at one time there was a real cruise ship that was called the Pacific Star, too, but it doesn't matter. There are only so many names that sound good, duplication will be inevitable.

Other possibilities:
Sea Star
Dwarf Star
Hollywood Star
Mon Star
Whenyouwishupona Star
NAGB Star (or the variant LGBTQ Star)
Pr0n Star

That's a good note, thanks! I also noticed that the currency symbol may not be properly lined up on some of them and I'll need to address that too.

Playing with the font a little to something a little more modern. I like this font for the name, but I prefer Trajan for the denomination, also helps the denom stand out a little more. Also playing with names some more. Started down a rabit hole and ended up with a lot of star names as well, and they seem to fit/feel better. Let me know what you think.

"Orion Star", "Vega Star", "Polaris Star" don't feel right to me. Adding the word "star" to the name of something that's already a star (or constellation) feels redundant.

If you want to play up the star connection, how about Galactic Star? It's a clear parallel to Atlantic and Pacific but takes it to a new level.

Keeping it more down to earth, here are some others that feel like a good fit to me, bearing in mind that it's supposed to be the name of a cruise ship from a cruise line that already has the Atlantic, Pacific, and Empress Star ships:

Eastern Star
Western Star
Northern Star
Southern Star
Polar Star
Nordic Star
Tropic Star

Diamond Star
Emerald Star
Silver Star
Golden Star

Royal Star
Majestic Star
Milan Star
Bella Star
Roman Star
Grand Star
Scandia Star
Mississippi Star
Delta Star

btw, all of the ones from this last group have some connection to poker chips, like the Empress Star does (a nod to the much-sought-after Empress Casino chips). Royal and Majestic are China Clay chip brands, as is Milano (but I'd just call it the Milan Star, after the city in Italy). Bella means "beautiful" but is also a nod to the Bellagio. Roman is a nod to the Roman Mold chips, or to Caesar's Palace. Grand refers to the Grand Cardroom fantasy chips, or could refer to any number of casinos that have "Grand" in their name. Scandia Star refers to the Paulson Scandia fantasy chips. And finally, Mississippi Star and Delta Star both refer to the riverboats that plied the Mississippi delta, the spiritual birthplace of poker.

Just some ideas to get your creative juices flowing!

I did not know about the empress star connection. Thanks for the info and ideas!

In for the imperial star and replacing the anchor with a Death Star.

A set to be used for a high roller pleasure cruise. All in efforts of raising more money the great venture of building the DS-1 Orbital Battle station, the true pinnacle of the Empires grandeur and might.
