I have been working on these for a few weeks and finally had some time to get my mock together and in inkscape. These are for an upcoming cards mold GB.
Any feedback is welcomed. I'm not a designer by any means, but I really want to make this set my own.
Since first joining this forum I've really loved the Aurora Star Cash set, and Empress Star Primary Tournament set. But once I started digging in these sets I knew I would never quite be dedicated enough to purchase them at their going rates. So I wanted to do the next best thing and get some customs based on those sets. I mostly play cash games with my group, so I decided to start there. In addition, I also didnt want to make just a 1:1 copy of the Aurora Stars, but make a comprehensive set (cash and tournament, maybe some secondaries down the line). Also these are not Aurora Stars, and I make no effort in my mind to say that they are. My aim is to make some good looking ceramic chips.
I've worked over the name quite a bit, and have been through a few alterations. I wanted to keep 'Star' somewhere in the name as a nod to all of the "xxx Star" sets. But I really didnt like how my stars came out and really liked the anchor clip-art I found.
But based on some feedback from another member on my inlay feedback post I decided to strip it down and keep it simple. With just the name, symbol, and denomination.
I first referenced the colors used on the poker chip tool as @Tommy et al have really worked to nail down as close to Paulson colors as possible. Then converted the HEX to CMYK. Then moved those colors to Pantone to get the best match then used the Pantone CMYK for this mockup. I also worked to cut down the color pallet, as it seems to be pretty common for colors to be altered by the manufacturer to simplfiy printing and colors. So I wanted to do that as much as possible to retain as much color control as possible.
My colors for reference:
