Favorite high end plastic chip (BJ/Abbiati/Gemaco/etc.) decal/label designs? (1 Viewer)

Yup I love the look of Matsuis but dayum they're like trying to get an air hockey puck to sit still. I do however think that the latest Matsui GB chips are great. I only have a shuffle stack but they didn't bother me at all.

I've always thought of myself as much more tolerant than average of slipperiness in plastic chips and I just cannot do Matsuis other than the CiC variety.

My 2 barrels of sample Matsui CIC chips has a lot of spinners.

I bought a set of 300 Matsui CiCs just to put them in small volume, short-handed play to see if I could take it. They're marginally less slippery than the regular all-plastic and they do have some spinners in the bunch, but I guess I'm a little more tolerant bc I love CiCs so much.

FWIW the custom prices and small-volume penalties for Matsui CiCs are a fair bit more forgiving than other plastic manufacturers. $1.10 per chip at 500 or more per design, $1.43 if under 500, with $300 per design art/set-up fee.

Which matsui regular all-plastic? There’s about 5 different Matsui chip lines and they all feel pretty distinct.

I don't know their product line names. I've probably only handled 2 or 3 of the varieties, though, which felt similar enough to me and all too slippery for my taste.

Went through a bunch of Washington, California, and Arizona rooms tonight and found the below.

Most of them aren't really great and some aren't even plastic, but each has an interesting element or two that I think does or could (if otherwise designed well) work well in a plastic chip.

Looking at a potential custom order from a plastic manufacturer and thinking through some design ideas.
FWIW I will 99% be going Abbiati.
Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet in three pages of posts, but...

Get samples, and of the exact chips you are considering purchasing. At least a stack of each.

Especially so if ordering plastics, as the different product lines from the same company can vary significantly in terms of feel, sound, and play characteristics.

Yep, already did.

Started the discussion and got samples pre-pandemic, but just never kept the process moving until this week. Been shuffling the samples for a while now...

Just bumping to show the latest iteration of the label/inlay/sticker/whatever design. Might be final - we shall see.

Obviously a parody/tribute/rip-off of the Casino Club (Redding CA) inlay, but I think the clean lines work well for a plastic design, too.

This may have already been asked/answered, can u pop out and place an inlay from a sun-fly or abbiati chip?

Answered your question in the other thread.

For Abbiati, the inlay doesn't "pop out". It gets scraped off into little bits of vinyl that flake off and get everywhere.
And in case you're wondering, Bud Jones chips are relatively easy (imho) to remove/replace, at least on the R4s.

I think I'm pretty open to whatever chips. I adore CIC chips. But matsuis were so slippery, they were sold after 1 game. Can't every do it again.... Bleh.

Update for all who have asked how you can order chips below the "1k piece per denom" inflection point. Tagging folks who have PMed (sorry if I'm missing anyone): @GianThaMan @Emitsu @davislane @warma @BPTDirector. FYI all of the below was true for my order through my rep. I have no idea if I got unique treatment or a free pass and this isn't universally available all the time. That said...

Abbiati has existing stock of chips from overruns of previous orders and I was offered that existing stock without regard for minimums and with no $900 charge. The downside was that the existing stock is limited in a few ways. Obviously the colors were limited to those choices made by the customers whose orders ran over. Further, the inventory numbers are limited by the numbers of the overrun. Finally, obviously there are no custom options available for the rim printing (denom, name, etc.).

Ultimately I decided that the above limitations were enough that I would prefer to meet the 1k minimum to get custom rim printing. I was already going to order enough of at least the $5s and probably $1s that I would get custom colors on those, so bumping up the $20s to 1k chips and not bothering with the hundos is preferable to me.

So they just slap on your inlay? That could work.

I’m thinking limit set- so easily 1K for the workhorse. The above option sounds great for the value chip.

Yeah, in my case I dealt with a US rep and she asked what base colors I wanted. She then relayed to the Euro folks those choices, they sent back to her proofs of those chips that had overrun stock and the numbers for each chip.

There weren't a ton of options (I asked for a bunch of colors and each had 2-4 options, many with both 39mm and 43mm chips) and many were very boring, but if you're just looking for one or two chips and aren't picky about the base color, you should be able to find something.

I got a few of the BJ's bingo chips just sitting around. I think they're chipco but could be wrong. I'll send you one or two if you'd like. Just pm me your address.
