I just came across this chip encased in lucite:

And it has me wondering whether anyone has tried to remove a chip from a block of plastic like this. I imagine the possibility of doing it without damaging the chip is extremely low, but someone out there must have been tempted to try it at some point.

Many have tried all have failed AFAIK. Best I’ve seen is a shaved down chip with thin layer of cloudy lucite still on it

When pouring, the chip melts a bit...so it's no regular chip anymore.

Or so I heard

I just watched this video about a coin in acrylic.
Sadly, if the plastic has fused to the chip, the outcome will likely be quite different than this:

If it is safe to get chips that hot I would think people would dry chips after cleaning in the oven. I think that chip is permanently lost

Not sure about melting, but they get soft at much, much lower temperatures.

It's probably a lost cause. (... but I haven't tried it myself so don't take my word for it!)

This would certainly be my assumption. I really can’t imagine there would be anyway to free a chip from lucite without significant damage.
