Here is an article about what a reopening of Vegas will look like. Slow, gradual steps that don’t include poker.

Spaced out table games and slots. Limited properties and restaurants.

Something I wonder if they are looking at could be electronic tables.

The initial cost would be a lot, but they could set them up as 6 players max to have social distancing. No need for a dealer and no chips/cards being passed around that could be spreading germs.

Fûck this better not be the thing that makes electronic poker mainstream (more than it already is)

For pit games they can keep everything the same in terms of play with cards and the felt on the table etc. The games can be played identical as previously, the only thing they need to figure out is how to remove chips from the equation. If they can figure out a way to make bets in a different way that don't transmit germs/virus then it could actually be a simple solution.

We have a local arcade type place that basically allows you to load money on a card and then you swipe it at the different games you want to play. If they implemented some way of digitally handling currency we could keep the human experience but just remove chips from the equation. Obviously, not ideal for chip enthusiasts but it would solve the ergonomic problem.

Electronic table > Online, but not by much. If Vegas let me play without pants, Electronic table >>>>>>>>>>>> Online. :wow:
I’m afraid to ask what you did that they banned you from wearing shorts at the casino? Also curious how they enforce that rule on you? :) :) :)

Maybe with a Mobil QR code you scan your phone with your bankroll and you enter bets with your phone at the tables.

I was just texting with a friend that is/was a dealer at the Venetian and he was saying that even before the governor of Nevada shut everything down the Nevada gaming commission had already instituted a max of 3 players at table games and poker tables were 3-7 players and the tables were more spread out.

Sounds like that may be the new normal if/when poker returns.

I’m guessing non Vegas casino will adapt similar rules to be open.

Awesome idea. Something like this would would perfectly. They could keep all the tables exactly as they are and just have people enter bets on their mobile device.

It might take some time but I am pretty sure Vegas will go in this direction.

Poker is more complicated as cards AND chips are part of the transmission problem.

As a former Pit Boss, I can say with confidence there is a zero percent chance this would happen. No way in hell they’d let you use an electronic device at a table game. Zero.

Six max live tables don’t sound too bad to me...

I am just spitballing ideas here. It could even be an electronic device provided by the casino. The point is there needs to be a way to make the games work without transmission of the virus.

Yeah, I understand. But I can’t imagine getting rid of chips. It’s quite a puzzle.

There are entire casinos that are entirely electronic including all table games. They have craps, roulette, black jack, poker, etc. players have to preload their money onto a card and insert the card into the table game/machine etc then enter their pin code for how much the want to put into the machine/poker table to play with. When they are done the money is put back on the card or a bet voucher is printed to be redeemed. It is not a new concept at all, just not one that is widely liked.

Agreed but can you picture the crotchety 70+ person that has played one way their whole life. Also how many 45+ have to put readers on to bet off to see the cards.

sorry for my ageists statements

Poker isn't even the half of it. Poker makes very little for the casino (relatively speaking). They could shut down poker completely, or go all electronic.

Losing live craps... that would be the true shame. There is no "energy" at bubble craps. The odds suck... I mean really fucking suck at bubble craps. Having the 45 y/o milf hitting on you during a hot roll, is a very real thing that goes away with social distancing. Sharing dice, getting/giving high-fives or hugs is why I love craps. That's all gone if Covid changes the world.

That is absolutely a Vegas I would never visit again.

I think you just advocated for no poker chips. o_O

I know of at least one LV casino that tried converting to electronic tables many years ago (Excalibur), and it went so well that they were back to chips and cards within months.
But if everyone is doing it there is a chance at success

Everyone won't do it. The only reason a poker room operates at all is because dealers are cheap (they make more in tips in a 20 hours week than I make in a steel mill on a 40 hour week) and the house has ZERO risk because it is not a player in the game. It really doesn't make anywhere near as much money as the rest of the casino. If they had to go all electronic, a lot of them would shut down.
