Even when Vegas does reopen, poker will not. (4 Viewers)

I've wondered if the reason casinos are not reopened is because everyone looks like bank robbers. Seriously, now is the time to rob a bank... No one would give you a second look if you came in wearing a mask and gloves...

Certainly, every casino wants to be open... But they don't want to compromise security (including facial recognition software), so perhaps they don't want to reopen if their guests are required (or even allowed) to wear masks.

I’ve mentioned that I was a Pit Boss, but I was also a Surveillance Supervisor for 4 years back in 2010-2014. At the time we had facial recognition software and it was a joke. It wasn’t helpful at all, waste of money.

I wonder if it got any better in the past 6 years? Not that I would think it perfect (or even useful from a casino P.O.V.) but my cell phone now has facial recognition, and I would assume that it has the absolute cheapest version of the software available.

It probably has gotten better, but it certainly had a long way to go. But, I don’t know how the industry opens up with everyone wearing a mask. Something unfortunate will surely happen because of it, most likely a robbery.

Wynn's play is to stop every single person at the door for a temperature check and to briefly lower their mask to confirm their age/identity.

This procedure alone would have discouraged the "motorcycle bandit".

Now, will they check everybody's face? As a grey-haired crows-feet eyes gentleman, I doubt they will need to check my face. But they should still be stopping me for a temperature check, so asking me to briefly drop the mask for security reasons, isn't unwarranted. You sure as hell aren't getting through airport security without dropping your mask at least once, so once at the casino isn't that far-fetched.

My wife’s family has a gas station/convenience store and when they ask people to lower their mask even for a second to ID them for beer sales they are throwing a fit about it. You know, because having beer is definitely essential!

OK, all this sucks.
I 'm afraid the future of poker chips (assuming a vaccine for this virus is found, and "general normality" occurs again) will be machine-washable chips, for hygene reasons. "Ceramics" at best.
NOT clay.:(

Is there noticeable wear and tear on chips in an ultrasonic?

I wonder if someone has a sacrificial chip that they can but through a couple hundred cycles.

No, there shouldn't be any. Much higher frequencies are routinely used for non-destructive ultrasonic testing of various critical-application nuclear and aerospace components. Guaranteed those have zero chance of causing damage. Been there, done that.

I suppose if you subjected a single chip to hundreds of hours of exposure, the cavitation (cleaning) effect could cause some minor wear. But the biggest threat to chips is from prolonged exposure to any additives (tsp) or excessive solution temperature.

When I cleaned chips in our ultrasonic I noticed a small amount of fine dust the same color as the chips in the bottom of the basin after draining the nasty water out. My co-owning buddies reported the same. I figured that would indicate some wear although I didn’t really see it on the chips.

Well, it's off to the Bellagio.

I have seen this as well, I assumed it is more the dust from physical handling and play that is being held on by the oils that get deposited on the chips. It then releases during the ultrasonic cycle

Yes, image recognition capabilities have come a long way over the past 10 years. But the most important aspect is camera quality. The input images need to be pretty high resolution when zoomed in.

Saw this on Twitter. Vegas is going to look a lot different! Glass partitions at every table?

Still going in July. Partitions or no. However @RainmanTrail brings up a valid point. If it doesn't clean easily, it's going to be gross. Visibly gross.

This was my thought too. Who has to clean these things? This will probably be the second worst janitorial job in history after cleaning the Paul Reubens theater.

As for the glass partitions. SMH. Couple issues jump out immediately. 1.) At some point one of these will be shattered with a angry fist. 2.) The reflections from these things are going to be tough on surveillance. 3.) This is going to make communication between the dealer and players difficult, which will affect tips...I think.

But I don’t think it’s a joke. I’m sure the casino would rather install these bulky, prison-like windows than be closed.

what a time to be alive.

Hopefully these are plexiglass

We're so degen, we'll play in cages so long as we can play.

Because of the fear of possibly spreading this specific Coronavirus I feel we are perhaps missing out on the larger picture. Creating hyper sterile environments is not a good thing. The result will just mean that the next virus to come along will be a super virus and our methods of sterilization may not work.

I have seen some pretty terrifying documentaries that talk about super bugs in hospitals and we don't have anything that can touch them. Up to now those super bugs are found almost exclusively in hospitals because of the ultra sterile environments they seek to maintain.

Corona is a virus. Not a bug

Found a leaked video of what looks to be the Wynn testing

I understand that that was not the Wynn - not even Vegas. It was shot in Louisiana, but I don't remember where. Be certain, everyone is thinking about it though.

EDIT: Margaritaville in Bossier City, LA.
