Even when Vegas does reopen, poker will not. (1 Viewer)

Poker rooms have to be one of the best petri dishes possible for virus spread.

Yeah, unfortunately. Mandatory masks and gloves for the entire duration of the event will help some, but not totally prevent it spreading (if present, in any form).

That means no eating, drinking, or smoking/vaping from start to finish, either. Not sure that qualifies as a good time, even if a home game.

There are entire casinos that are entirely electronic including all table games. They have craps, roulette, black jack, poker, etc. players have to preload their money onto a card and insert the card into the table game/machine etc then enter their pin code for how much the want to put into the machine/poker table to play with. When they are done the money is put back on the card or a bet voucher is printed to be redeemed. It is not a new concept at all, just not one that is widely liked.

the first time I played in one of these it was a casual outing just to see what the casino was like. I didn’t want to sign up for a bunch of stuff, I just wanted to check out the chips and maybe pull a few slots. So they had this card thing you could load, but I didn’t want to fill out shit, so I just stuck a hundred in a machine cause they took cash too. Pressed it a few times, then decided to move on to another.

Here’s the rub - the machine would only either put money back on your card, which I didn’t have, or it gave you the money back in euros - metal fucking euros. Clang clang clang, felt like I was in Vegas during the 50’s. I didn’t want to feed them back into a machine so I took my bucket of euros to the cashier and cashed out.

This really is the time for us to give it a strong try
Hmmm would be very nice. But the other possibility is, that the chip manufacturers get lots of new orders for replacing chips? Or they develop a new chip that is suppose to reduce virus spread..

Well i didnt say it would work, but marketing is powerful

Casinos are not going to drop a ton of money for new chips when they aren’t making any money. Especially since new chips will transfer germs as easily as old chips.

We will see some cleaner chips when casinos open and hopefully they will continue to be cleaned on a regular basis going forward. It would be great if the age of hooker juice is over!

I think they will spend as much as needed to get people back and trust the casinos with their health after this

They are already putting credit card machines at tables. Making your "stack" a digital readout wouldn't be a huge jump.

That said, China has already gone through SARS (2002-2004), and they still use chips. A casino saying they "care about you" is nothing more than a P.R. gimmick. I've never seen a casino "care" about second-hand smoke, alcohol abuse, or poor dietary choices. Unless there is a public outcry, or a casino sees markable success with electronic options, the chips will be the same dirty chips.

I just see already lots of companies that advertise with being sterile, moving companies, shipping companies, supermarkets are reconstructing their entrances, etc etc. I think this will be a big thing in generating revenue after the crisis. I guess all hotels will advertise freshly desinfected rooms etc. Lots of it is just marketing or the try to get customers to trust again..

Once the dust settles, I don't think anything will change in terms of the old school gambling experience. Give it eighteen-to-twenty-four months, table games and poker will revert to the way it was 3 months ago. However, it would make sense (to me) if they would add some large ultrasonic bins somewhere on the property to sanitize the chips once a week - but that would cost quite a bit to create and maintain, so that probably won't happen.

I’m in!!

The easiest path would be to reissue the already home market sets, that they own the rights too. Maybe they use some now “unavailable” combinations as well.

GPI has never sold directly to the consumer market. All of the recent chip designs (circa 2004-2015) were ordered and distributed by Trademark Poker. In accordance with their own internal guidelines, GPI couldn't remake any of those chips for anybody else.

I was thinking of the Paulson era.

I'd think a cure/vaccine is higher on the priority list...

New anti-viral chips, cards, and currency are in your future. Eveybody just plays with their phone, swiping to read their electronic cards, bet non-existent chips, and collect virtual pots. No touching or sharing of common items.
This sounds horrible.

I am playing poker tonight with 8 good friends , one table tourney with a few rebuys allowed. We played on Wednesday night... used Zoom for video conference and our phones or Tablets for the poker app. It worked flawlessly and was a good time. Killed nearly three hours. Guess who was the big winner?;) The Future is now!

The Wynn has posted their plans for reopening. Section on poker posted below:

I wonder if bombarding them with ultrasonics would be helpful for bullet-point "G". I mean, if anybody can offer "expert guidance" it would be one of us.

11 Poker Operations Cleaning & Sanitizing Protocol
  • a) Supervisors to sanitize table game rails after each customer leaves (ongoing)
  • b) Supervisors to sanitize each chair area after a customer leaves (ongoing)
  • c) Supervisors to sanitize the outside of shufflers every hour; inside to be cleaned once per week
  • d) Supervisors to sanitize podiums at least once per hour including phones, computers, Veridocs, all hard surface and cabinetry
  • e) Dealers to sanitize in table rating units each time they enter a game
  • f) Dealers to sanitize toke boxes
  • g) Chip sanitation solutions being reviewed – pending expert guidance
Physical Distancing Protocol
  • a) Every other table open and tables to be staggered
  • b) Maximum seating to be established based on expert guidance
  • c) Dealers to verbally give breaks instead of “tapping in” and maintain appropriate separation
Guest Considerations
  • a) Guests will be reminded to sanitize their hands prior to the start of play
  • b) Food service protocols to be reviewed

Because of the fear of possibly spreading this specific Coronavirus I feel we are perhaps missing out on the larger picture. Creating hyper sterile environments is not a good thing. The result will just mean that the next virus to come along will be a super virus and our methods of sterilization may not work.

I have seen some pretty terrifying documentaries that talk about super bugs in hospitals and we don't have anything that can touch them. Up to now those super bugs are found almost exclusively in hospitals because of the ultra sterile environments they seek to maintain.

If we can goto Walmart the poker tables should be open with the same we have in Pa. Everyone in a place like Walmart must wear a mask or be denied entrance. Just add gloves and deal the cards. Also if everyone is waking around looking like bank robbers (mask/gloves) why do we need distancing (as long as kept on). No food at tables

I've wondered if the reason casinos are not reopened is because everyone looks like bank robbers. Seriously, now is the time to rob a bank... No one would give you a second look if you came in wearing a mask and gloves...

Certainly, every casino wants to be open... But they don't want to compromise security (including facial recognition software), so perhaps they don't want to reopen if their guests are required (or even allowed) to wear masks.

George Carlin was great. A true original

In the Wynn's protocol, they state "All guests wishing to gamble will be requested to briefly lower their masks for age and identification purposes in compliance with Nevada gaming requirements."
