Do you still have to announce your intention to gamble on the premises 24 hours before you are permitted to do so? When we were over there for our honeymoon we were down the street from a casino and we looked into going but the concierge at the hotel warned us about their whacky gaming rules. Since we were just passing through the timing wouldn't have worked so we didn't even walk over.
They had weird hours too as I recall. Like not open til noon.

Hopefully that's all changed, this was like 13 years ago. Thanks for the heads up on that. Seems strange.

I don't know. We never investigated further. As I said, there was a casino down the street from our hotel in London and we inquired at the hotel front desk to see if they had any specials or partnerships (common in the US). The concierge informed us that we were required to register with the casino a day before we'd be allowed in to gamble. I gave him a weird look and I forget exactly what he said but with the full formal RP and quintessentially British understated sarcasm he essentially said their gaming laws are messed up.Are you talking about one specific casino or what is this post refering to?

Ok, thanks for elaborating. That sounds super wierd. I guess some of the UK members can elaborate further. This has never been an issue in the few different london cardrooms/casinos I have been to over the last five+ years though.
Ah ha, that must be it. Maybe casinos per se weren't allowed but private clubs were permitted to allow members to gamble. That would explain the formalities like the waiting period if the club ostensibly had to vet prospective members or some such.Laws changed about 10 years ago, the 24 hour thing is gone, although most you still have to be a member, which usually takes all of 2 minutes showing id at the reception when you turn up. That's as much about getting your details for marketing purposes than anything else.
