to piggy back off of slisk250's thread. Lets talk about bad runs.
How long did your bad run last?
Tourney/Cash/Both?
How did you end the bad run?
I have a specific bankroll, own account and everything. All my losses come out of it (even chip purchases). All my winnings go into it. I have to practice very strict BR management of which I didn't used to do
Anyways, I had taken my bankroll up from 20 bucks to 3200. Over the course of about 15 months it went from 3200 to 800. We play monthly tourney's for 40-60 bucks. I didn't cash once in the 15 months. Hell, I wasn't even making the final table (20 player games). I was only doing slightly better in the cash games.
A few months into the bad run I blamed it on bad cards. That was partly true. I was also playing bad. I decided to mix up my play. Play more hands, play less hands, blah blah blah. It all failed, because I was still playing bad.
I decided that I needed to reset the way I played. Go back to playing the basics. Focus on positional poker, top 10-20 hands, remove bluffing from the equation, oh, and play in fricken position!!!
I also re-read a few poker books and decided that I needed to take my poker more serious.
What do you know. Things changed for me. Not quickly, but none the less they changed. I started making the final table, or bubbling, or even taking 4th place money.
Shortly after I "reset" my play I went on an unbelievable hot streak. I cashed in 9 of 11 tourney's with 4 First Places (three in a row), my cash game profit picked up and off I went.
I have since slowed down. Last season (11 reg season games) I didn't win any. I did cash in 4 or 5 of them with two second place finishes.
To date, my bankroll damn neared doubled from what I had before going on my bad run.
Your story?
Thanks for reading.
