I feel like you need to constantly bump your SALE threads because everyone else is doing it and to keep your SALE thread visible.

Maybe an alternative would be that replys wouldn't bring threads back to the top. If this isn't possible maybe replys aren't allowed like in CANCELED or SOLD threads with the downside that questions can't be clarified in public.

What do you think?

Maybe only allow a user to bump one of their own threads per day, rather than an uncapped number of their own threads per day?

As others already said: Constant cancelling and relisting would be the consequence.
This would also make bigger sales threads with multiple lots less effective and thus spamming the classifieds even more with several single listings.

Honestly, if you have to bump a sale daily for months, it’s not priced right. Some just can’t get that because they paid too much it to begin with. (Or are trying to get “max value”)

Then, some others list and sell the same thing for lower quickly, but the one unsold still won’t adjust the price.

Seems simple to me.

I'm of two minds about it. Like if you are selling multiple things at the same time should you make one big sale thread and just try and list everything in the title or should you make multiple threads for each item. Either approach is valid however if I'm honest I'm much less likely to look at a posting if it says 'bunch of stuff for sale' than if it lists a specific thing I'm interested in. Then if in the second approach stuff isn't selling as fast as you'd hope you are bumping your threads daily and probably doing them one after another and so all of your threads appear in a clump in the classifieds.

I do feel a bit for someone who paid a lot for something and now is struggling to sell it for even what they paid. It's happened to me a few times, but never for big money, but it feels bad every time. Sometimes you just want something gone and the idea of basically paying money for someone else to take it sucks.

The people making 20 auctions all at the same time get ignored immediately.

It’s funny how bent people get over a few dollars.
Somebody buys a rack for $300 and sell for $275? They do without a burger and fries once in their life.

None of the rack pricing is ever life changing money, yet it’s treated as such. You can’t be casual with your dollars, but don’t let the price of a hamburger once in a while slow your life down.

yep. Buying a rack for 300 instead of 275 they'd never think twice about. Selling the same rack for 275 instead of 300 is deeply painful. Some term for that behavior, but I can't remember what it is.

Why? If they were buying overpriced chips, they just made things more expensive for the rest of us. Now they can pay the price by dumping chips. I wish you could have seen what this community was like before it grew and became a business for the middle man. I’m in full support of the vendors that bring chips to the community via casino buys or dedicated harvesters. The flippers?… well, no use for that shit. The old school guys still sell chips at cost but none of that gets listed. It’s all by PM. We sell sets at cost using numbers from before the chipping whale arrived. wish we had a time machine to go back a decade.

edit. And folks still trying to get 200+ a rack for Paris 1s. I would estimate at 200 racks of those left the WSOP and cost exactly 1 dollar a chip to get. I pulled 1400 new out of there and sold most at cost. Not listed…pm only. Chip Karma is very very real But the noobs don’t have a full appreciation for it. Harvesting usually does cost money and one of our vendors here prices his chips fairly Imo. If you went on an all day harvest going to four casinos your parking bill alone would be 60 bucks if you don’t have status. Some places you can buy if you figure it out. Others you have to put your wallet at risk. Long live the chip room and dedicated harvesters. Down with the flips.

So it's going to be on of those threads.

I've overpaid more times than I care to admit on racks and barrels I've needed to complete a set. Both in PM and in public sales threads. Even with wanted ads out for weeks and months on some stuff, I didn't get any bites. Finally, after over a year of looking for them, the exact chips I needed hit the classifieds on a dibs sale, and at a very fair price at that. I had to buy more than I needed to secure what was needed, but I passed the extra chips I wasn't going to use off to someone else that I know needed them at cost.

Does that make me a sucker? Maybe. I'm not here to make money. Never have been.

I still don't think crapping on a sales thread should be allowed even if the listing is egregiously off. To get somewhat back on topic for this thread, keeping the sale thread open and bumping it for weeks and months on end when it's apparent the item is priced too high is embarrassment enough. I'd be embarrassed at least. Some folks have no shame.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting it but don’t these selling “at cost” private sales in PMs between OG members only contribute to the end of that chipping culture/community everyone always talks about since it’s not visible for newer members to experience?
It's a very nuanced situation. I prefer to do business via PM's only because if there is someone I know looking for something that I'd be willing to sell, I reach out to them first. Then I check with my locals. Only then if no one wants the chips do they hit the classifieds. Even then, if it's something that multiple people may be interested in even if there are no WTB ads out there, I do a draw and pick randomly who buys.

You get that a lot of people out there aren't flippers, right?

I'm not talking about people who are trying to make a profit on chips. I'm talking about people who buy a chip when a lot of people are wanting them and the price is high, community interest wanes, and they are just trying to recoup their costs. Every chip I've ever purchased I bought with the intention to use. Every chip I've ever sold I sold because I was no longer using the chips, either I found a chip for the set I liked better, the chip 'didn't work' in person, or I was moving on to a different set.

If someone is trying to use them as an investment and takes a bath they can get fucked.

But if you are a genuine hobbyist and losing money on a set, you at least have my 'yeah that sucks' sentiment.

And yeah, I sell stuff privately all the time. I sold a rack earlier this week at my cost which I'm sure I could have made a profit on, but that isn't why I'm here.

Which is why I only "overpay" for chips I know I'm going to use and will never sell. If you paid $600 for a rack of Jack watermelons, for example, and now are trying to sell them for the same price, then yeah, that sucks, but there's a reason no one else would buy at that price. Like I said, I fully acknowledge that I'm a sucker, but I pay silly prices only on stuff that I know will be kept and never sold so I avoid this very predicament.

They want that last $8.95 they spent on postage
The eBay “top sellers” forum told them to be patient, hold firm. A price reduction shows weakness and you are selling a premium product. Hold firm and demand your price, you’ll sell it …..eventually (time value of money & cash flow management be damned) - lol.

True but there was plenty of talk about how crazy prices were going in the open market. They bought hi and might be stuck. No sympathy here at all. We are gamblers here aren’t we?

Did only a couple flippers change the market? It is what it is

Kinda going through this right now. On one hand I don't want to be bumping for no reason. On the other hand I kinda screwed up and did a couple listings instead of one; so updates result in Bumps.

IDK what the proper approach is, but when I list something, my intention is to sell; there is no going back to the vault lol.

it’s alive and well. Does it matter who sees it.

I recently saw chips I sold to someone here for 1K A rack, my cost. He was 1 year on the site when I sold. They were listed at 2K a rack A few months later. This person hardly needs the cash. Try to let a new one in….

Its all about relationships here, not time stamped on the clock. I regularly give stuff away at cost or less. There are noobs in there as I’ve had the opportunity to meet them. Three of the best ones helped me in an emergency and I had never met them. Friends for life, they get anything free or at cost. Very well know members now

Better then when it goes up, 40 members fight over it, one gets it then posts it 3x more when "they decided to change directions"

There isn't a good answer. But one I can work within (selling a trading sets in PM) and the other is a shit show.
