I am just putting a feeler out here to see if there are any mint Dunes $1 and what is the going price. I am hoping to acquire a rack. Thanks in advance for the reply.

Update: I now have EIGHT $1s, looking for only 92 more!

I think you are looking at $8-10/chip for casino used...if you could find them. Mint? Dunno, but more!

Edit: somebody please correct me by PM if they can be had for less. :)

There goes my hope of completing a set.

I just bought from Spinettis a 300-chip mint set ($5-$100), so now I am looking for some ones.

They are from the Dunes Casino and not commemorative? I have seen the 300 chip sets in used condition go from $800 to $1300.

Yeah, I pulled the trigger on the set without knowing the availability of the $1s.

Now that I remember Spinettis was selling some uncirculated Dunes for around $1300 in a case with two decks of Bellagio cards

No mint $1s exist. Finding very rounded $1s (21 to a barrel in a rack) is very difficult and will cost you $2K per rack at this point.

F me! Look like I have to to go with the Scandia ones.

So there is your answer. Your set is now a tourney set! Add some $500s in there! It's cheaper (but barely)

Edit: or label something to get $1s. Yeah, that would work

Some of the single Chip collectors are selling single $1 chips for as much as $50. Still a nice set to have but if you are going to play them just get some comparable $1's. You would pay and arm and a leg for $1's. It appears that in the early years they used the H&C (CJ) mold. See if you can find something similar. and you can have labels made similar to what is in the picture!!!

Pulling the trigger happens to all of us especially if it is something we really want. Welcome to the great world of spending cash, oh I mean chip collecting

I certainly don't have any $1 Dunes, but I do have almost two racks (199) of a very similar blue chip that has $1.00 stamped on one side and a starburst on the other. I bought them a while ago, but they're barely used, and I don't see myself needing them given the other sets I now own. Just a thought in case you wanted something to use for now that you could either relabel at some point or resell when you found something more suitable.

I have this version, and maybe I will go with the Scandia $1 (thanks shaggy) if I can get them.

The Dunes chips are a Horizon Blue, it that helps. A rack would be hard to find. I paid 1200 in May 2010 for a rack of used. Berg might be closer to the truth on a price these days, but I don't think I'd pay more than 1500. I think Jackstraw recently got a hold of a rack or two. His intel would be the best. You can still have a tourney set with 5,25, and 100. Just don't use those old Bellagio dollars with the Dunes, color transfer would ruin your 5's. Those hotstamped dollars Bentax has look nice. I would use them as is, and not relabel

The Scandia chips are a nice choice too (I have two racks, but they not for sale at the moment as they're part of my relabel project).

It's hard to tell in the picture, but the Scanida is a lighter and brighter of a blue. If anything, the hot stamp chips are a bit darker

edit: looking at the picture and the chips in front of me, the hot stamps are a less intense of a blue (not dull, but not as bright, if that makes sense). There is more of a difference in person than in the picture.

Sure, start with a tourney set, they say. A while later, you wake up with your credit cards turned to ashes, unsure of what happened, but surrounded by these and a hazy memory of saying "I'll take em, those too" over and over again.
