I’m debating on whether or not buy a table with a wooden racetrack. They are more commonly available locally and costs a lot less than the all-felt casino style tables.

However, just wondering what damage a wooden racetrack would do to clay chips long term if you shuffle, or tip over a stack, or push multiple stacks from the racetrack to the felt..etc?

I had a wooden race track for years. Damage to chips was never really a concern, or an outcome, however it is way more difficult to shuffle chips on a race track than on a cushioned, felted, surface. There's just nothing for the chips to grip onto. I like the look of race tracks, but have found them not as practical. Once I created a table with the cup holders in the rails, I realized I'll never go back.

If you like cleaning spills up off of your felt and chips/cards then by all means go for a racetrack.
It’s a nice flat surface to hold my 1st drink, sunglasses, car keys, wallet, second drink for later, bottle of water that I don’t want to throw away, two snacks, iPad, and my day planner.

That’s typically what I see on racetracks in front of each person.
Adding charging ports let’s them put even more shit on the table if that’s your goal.

No. If anything, I’d worry about the clay chips damaging the wood racetrack.

But racetracks serve no purpose (aside from looking nice) and really get in the way, in a lot of important ways. When I see somebody with a table with a racetrack, I assume they don’t actually play much poker. Or at least they didn’t when they bought the table.
