Do you play with your chips? Do you just collect? Have you stopped playing but still collect?

It'll be interesting to see people's responses....

I suppose I better answer my own question.. I started playing poker in 2006-7. Firstly online then in casinos. I bought my chips around 2008, firstly vineyards then I sold and bought some PNY. Then I stopped for about 6 years and my chips and table went into storage. Recently I've started playing a little online again and my interest in chips has come back too. In England almost all casinos use awful plastic chips or crappy quality ceramics which is a shame

I play fortnightly at a mates house. It's about a 45min drive so setting up my shed to host games. Would love to play and collect more.

You could make cityscapes out of chips. Might be fun to try and recreate NYC with PNY chips.

My Dad's Italian so I grew up playing 7-card stud, 5-card draw, throwing dice, etc. when we got together with "the family". When Moneymaker won the WSOP I learned Hold Em, then picked up Omaha hi/lo and learned a variety of mixed games (Stud 8 or better, Razz, Badugi, 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball, etc). Love to play and recently relocated near Tampa, Florida, so have a 50-table poker room within a 15 minute drive plus host home games as well.

My first real set of chips was Paulson Le Noire, 300 chip tourney set, sold them a few years ago and regret it. Now have a 1200-chip set of Championship Poker Series china clays (tourney) plus 2,000 of that same chip custom-labeled for cash games.

Stratus51 has a 2008 account on CT as well, and has posted on the Chip Magnet thread over there. So maybe we can back off the John Boy accusations (unless he has also hacked a 7 year old account, which could be possible).

Confirming that Stratus51 is a long-time member at CT.

I play with most of my chips -- definitely with both of my custom sets and my PNYs. That was the whole point of buying them!. I do have some chips that I'm not sure what to do with, such as my Paulson web mold solids. They've never been in play because I might sell them and they're worth more if new. I can always change my mind and put them into play, but it's impossible to do the opposite.

I host a game every 6 weeks to get one of my 3 custom sets into play. I've also bought a cheaper set (Milanos) exclusively for games not hosted at my house. In addition, I have a custom cash set that hasn't seen any real play, but I have it on hand - just in case a cash game breaks out.

Of course I play with my chips - at least the ones not in the orphanage. I host ~40 games a year and play in another 50 or so. Bless my sweet wife who doesn't object, even cooks for us most night.

I started by buying my brother a set of 500 Oceanside Card Club room (if anyone has fracs or $5, $25, $100 they want to part with PM me) from Spinnetti. After playing with "real" chips, I decided I also needed a set, which was about the time they stopped selling home sets. I bought a crap ton of Olivia's from Spinnetti and sold them on eBay, which I used to finance my sets of JB98s, CBs, and Mardi Gras Queen. I wanted a set of Paulson, Bud Jones CIC, and Chipco. I bought and sold a few others, (and NO, I don't have any Olivia's left). I don't host, and every once in a while my chips get used for a game, maybe 1 time a year, and usually just the MGQs. I don't want to part with my chips, but I have no rational reason for owning them, other than I like them. I also have 4 display cases for casino chips I get from casinos I visit, other than that, I really don't collect chips. I suppose at some point when I decide to retire (like 20 years from now) and need to get rid of "stuff" all of these will be for sale. I gotta pay for my mausoleum some how, and those gargoyles are not cheap.

Short answer, I have sets, really don't use them or collect more sets, and will not part with them, but will add to them sometimes.

I regret selling my vineyards now even though it was far from complete. I might have to start buying again... If I can find any!

Play almost strictly brick/mortar and home games. In the minority, but I hated online poker. Likely cause no chips. When I first got my customs, I used to stack them in front of the computer screen as I played.

Host game monthly. Use customs mostly. CPS and PNY occasionally make appearances. Cash games always use customs or if small, old Bellagio chips. Only set I don't put into action is Olivia's those are just for keeps.

I play poker and I have used maybe half of my chips. That is ONLY due to the lack of games based on my situation. Hasn't been regular since I haven't had a place to live in over 10 months. Prior to that I lived in an area that didn't seem to care for a regular game. However, I recently bought a house and hope I can rekindle my home poker games back to once monthly (from quarterly). Good neighbors, friends, coworkers etc. I use DD poker timer and display on my big screen with obv nice chips, decent tables, and appropriate structure. I just want to host regular fun games again. I really enjoy hosting.

ps: I also play online but only for play $$ (about the equiv of playing solitaire or video pinball, lol)

Hey Hey, wait till I'm done building my set :)

You may have some serious sticker shock for what they are going for these days. I just started mine and my kids already have to settle for community college.

Good luck with all things poker!

Depending on where you live in the Pacific NW, you're more than welcome to join in on my home game or I can join yours. I'm always on the lookout for more people to play HGs with.

I had 500 Vinnies. 200 x 1s 200 5s and 100 20s I think I paid $2400 when a pound was $2 might have been 2800 actually.

I have way too many chips to play with all of them, but the desire to do so is certainly there. A few of the sets do see regular play, however. I play in several different poker tournament leagues, plus online.

I host a monthly game and rotate through my various sets - customs, casino, and Paulson fantasy sets.

I try to rotate playable sets around my games - here is the plan for the next month:

Today - NL hold'em $1/$1 with Empress chips
Next weekend - Dealers choice, $1-$4 spread limit played with thousands of one dollar ceramics from PJ Pockets in Washington
First Saturday in Sept NL hold'em $0.25/$0.50 with Outpost chips
Third Saturday in Sept NL hold'em $1/$1 with Garden City chips and maybe my new dealer's button.
No doubt there will be a NL hold'em $1/$2 game sometime next month with Hard Rock ceramics. (maybe two games now that school is back in session)

Every set gets its turn. Outpost more turns than most because it is the only set with $0.25 chips.

Good times -=- DrStrange

Started out playing tourneys with co-workers (still do, but those games are few and far between as they lost interest), and now play a monthly tourney as part of a league (I'm one of the rotating hosts), and I tend to host a game between the league games. Colour issues and height inconsistencies with the chips I had led me to search out a better set, and that led me to the various chip and home poker sites (between a plastic card addiction and now chips, my wallet is officially doomed). I've never played online, except on this site.

Since we normally play tournaments, the Yak large denom set gets the call, with the Yak lower denom set used for the 25c / 25c cash game for the bust outs who wish to keep playing (no overlapping denoms between sets). The CPS set has been used twice, and I'm on the fence about keeping them. They are nice, but I don't like them as much as the ceramics.

You see i hate rotating dealing.... i lose my concentration

Haha, that's what I do if I play online! Grab a barrel and shuffle away so it feels....real?

Anyway, I host a semi-regular game with my chips. About once a month, either a 10c/25c PL ring game or a $20 NLH tourney. My Pharaoh's get some use :)

My friends don't really appreciate quality chips though so my Paulsons and BCCs are yet to see the table, unfortunately. They're just for me to fondle and look at for now :-\
