Do you play music? (1 Viewer)

Always. Try and avoid getting too objectionable -- what one of the crew calls "baby-killin' music" -- but gotta have something.

I’m not a sports fan, but many of my regulars are. I don’t put sports on unless it is requested, and when I do I usually put it on mute, because I find it distracts so much from the poker, that half the players are distracted and the other half are annoyed by the slow play.

Mostly play jazz. Lately we've been using Spotify's new "session" feature and all my players queue up whatever songs they want. This could be a problem with randoms, but between friends, we all end up just playing jazz anyways (with a dash of early xmas music lately)

You'd run into the same issue when the same players who preferred to have sports on decide to watch it on their phones while the poker game is going on.

Heck, that happens a lot at my place even if there's a game on the TV with a handful of folks either watching another game or checking scores. It really sucks during college basketball season.

I would love that. Most of our players prefer 80s or classic rock, though, so I normally pick a 80s or classic rock channel on our TV, assuming there isn't a hockey game on.

Always. Back in the day we would each pick a cd for the 5 disc changer. Now, for the big annual reunions we all pick a few hours worth and shuffle.

Background music is fine. low to moderate volume. anything too loud is just annoying. imho

We play music as well. We have a public Spotify playlist that anyone can add to. That means they can delete as well, but I've said that they're only allowed to delete their own songs, not other's.
Haven't tested the session thing, I will try that once we start live play again.

We almost always play music at our games, but our crew also likes a solid mix of rock, r&b, and country so it gets a little interesting sometimes lol

I think the same, but i prefer if everyone listens his own music. Otherwhise it can distract you from playing. Thats what i think :/

I think background music is less distracting to the game than having a TV on with some other sporting event. However it depends on your group. If somebody loses a hand or a few because they’re too focused on the football score, well, it’s Darwin poker here and no one is crying for you.

kinda weird if everyone listens to their own music IMO. If you mean like they use their own headphones and all. Fine for a casino, but for a home game, I'd like to socialize with my buddies rather than have everyone dead silent focused on stealing their friends' monies. Poker home games to me are just an excuse to drink irresponsibly and eat copious amounts of junk food.

I understand music can be distracting though, so we usually play music quiet enough so that it's just barely audible whenever there's dead air during play. We also mostly just play instrumental jazz, so there's really no lyrics to be distracted by.

Absolutely play music when I host. I take the time to put together a new and unique play list for each monthly tournament (when they happen :().
