Hi all,

We've been running a home game for years, and do not have any set breaks built into our tournaments. Never even really considered it. After playing online, I like having scheduled breaks. Seems as if having them scheduled at the appropriate color up times would be the best way. Currently, color ups get delayed too long sometimes until someone busts out so they can handle it. Strange to me that we have never even considered scheduled breaks before.

Yes. Typically in casinos they are every 2 hours, but you might want to build them in a little sooner if your friends are getting drinky/schwifty at your home games.

If your rebuy period ends in < 2 hours, maybe schedule it for then, and definitely schedule a break around color ups, then fill gaps as needed.

I used to at my home games, but it didn't work well. Then I switched to having only one break, usually when food was delivered, and that was a winner.

Yeah. We do ten min for beer and bathroom every 40 min. It's a four hour game, so normally 3 breaks, then we go till it ends.

My games take a break every hour. Lets smokers duck outside and lets drinkers hit the can.

Same here for tournies. 20 minute levels, 10 minute break every 3 levels, color ups every other break. Usually after the 3rd break we're close to the money so afterwards breaks are shorter and only as needed.

I always have breaks for color-ups, and I color up as soon as a denom is no longer needed. Usually 10 minutes for the first two, then 5 for the rest. I also have a break when the final table is drawn.

We do 10 minute breaks every 3 levels and it's a nice way to cut any tension and get a refill of beer.

Always a good idea to have a break every 90 or 120 mins, however anyone that needs a comfort break or smoke, their hand is dead once they leave the table.

My tourney usually runs about 4 hours. I only have one scheduled break after the first 1 1/2 hours which coincides with the end of the rebuys and color up time which seems to work well since we have a bit of down time anyway. The bathroom is only 15ft away so its easy for people to take a bio break whenever needed.

We are there to play poker not take breaks. I find it just takes away from the game too much.

For structures with 20 min levels, a break ever four levels. For structures with 30 min levels, a break every three levels. First break is always longer, usually 15 min to allow for time To count the money and compute the payouts. Subsequent breaks are usually 5 min.
