Do I tell them....? (1 Viewer)

I have no problems sharing that info with my poker buddies. It keeps things honest and interesting

I keep an annual graph and update players the next day of each game

This was 2020

Brysen seems to be the main sponsor of good times in your game :)

As long as it’s mutually agreed upon, open to everyone and made fun like here, my earlier objections are out the window of course :)

Outside of my bi-monthly cash game, I have three friends I get together with usually every Sunday to play poker (less so b/c of COVID). We like to play $5 or $10 tournaments, winner take all. We usually get 3 games in a night. For the past two years we've been writing the results of each game on the back of a door in my basement. We've never taken the time to add it all up. Our general consensus was that we're all probably close to even, and we've basically just been passing money back and forth.

Well, I decided to put all the data in a spreadsheet this weekend aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand......................................

For the record, I am that beautiful blue line.

Did something magical start happening 9 months ago? Did I miraculously get better, or did my friends get worse? Or is this just regular variance, and over another two years I'll come back down to earth?

I know this isn't crazy money we're talking about, especially when it's spread over 2 years, but I kinda don't want to tell Red & Green that they're both stuck $150, while I'm up over $300, unless they ask for some reason. Is that silly?
I have a similar dilemma.. have played a weekly cash game with good friends since the beginning of the year and I am waaay up. They know I keep track of winnings/losses week over week. I always let them know where they are when they ask, but I never volunteer it lol. Fortunately they are relatively good sports about it. They view it as an investment in "fun".. that said, their interest in a weekly game as faded over the past few weeks.. oh well..

If these are good friends you should not be using this to squeeze money out of them and build up your bankroll. If you're looking to build up your bankroll, do that online or at the casino.

Now I'm not saying play soft on them. As I said earlier in the thread, the winners should be buying the drinks. Up $100? Bring a bottle of Booker's to the next poker night. Then you're not the winner; everyone wins.

Oh, no doubt. No ill intent whatsoever, nor do I use this to build my bankroll. We all just play for fun. Stakes aren't terribly high and they definitely don't want me to go easy on them.. completely agree with you on bringing drinks, etc. I probably don't reinvest in the game enough. Cheers!

I completely understand your original point. I will say that friends or enemies, NO one enjoys losing at poker. We all want to win. But if my sole purpose was to win and only care about the money I would never show any of my players the graph. Our game is different though. All my guys are ginos

I think sharing the data is fine if you are close friends with them. I think they will find it interesting, and will challenge them to improve their game. Small stakes are for fun and learning. Nice charts btw.

I have to assume that the vast majority of home games consist of close friends or vouched by a close friend which should make it ok to share these infos. Of course if we are dealing with high stakes (which is unlikely to be a home game), then that’s different.

At least for me, when playing low stake SnGs with some old friends, I do tend to play more for fun than if I were to play at a casino poker room. I'm playing a larger range, I chase down more hands, make more bluffs, let others stick in more hands. It's for entertainment, to talk and get some drinks, not to make any serious dough, so the price is baked into the playstyle. No reason to tell your friends, they most likely already know and most likely don't care.
