Do a lot of people collect barrels? Is that something people used to do? Or is it something that's becoming more popular?
I guess I don't remember seeing a lot of barrel collecting going on in my first few years here. I know at one point, @liftapint started a barrels of hundreds collection. And @allforcharity put together a big collection of live vegas $1s barrels, but that's all I saw for years. Then I remember one guy, somebody who dated back into the blue wall days, who was selling off some stuff, and it was like a barrel of these grail chips and a barrel of those grail chips, and I questioned him on why he had those odd quantities. Because up to that point, it seemed to me like people either collected sets or singles or both, but that was about it. He seemed annoyed with my question, so maybe it was a stupid question. But I'm going to ask it again here, because in the past week, I've seen people mentioning it a few times. Do a lot of you collect barrels of chips? Or other odd amounts (ie- more than one, but fewer than enough to play with?)

I have seen some really cool collections and have heard a few other people trying to assemble some. I have been flirting with breaking up a rack of hundos I have and swapping out four of the barrels for other hundos, since I will never need more than a barrel of those in a cash game. Have not been able to get my big trade thread up yet though so it is still TBD.

@PocketAces @Natskule

I’ve posted a few things to the recent barrels thread. In my case, I only have barrels that aren’t racks, yet. My plan is not to stop at one barrel. But since it feels like an accomplishment and each barrel gets you closer to a rack, it feels good completing them. These days there are a few of us trying to put racks together one chip at a time.

Yes, absolutely! I like to say I collect singles, sample sets, and shuffle stacks. Not enough to play a game with, but enough to play with - to fondle, fidget, and fiddle with.

I’m trying to collect “a handful” (whatever that means; it’s a loose term) of nearly every type of chip I can describe, the ultimate “get samples” collection. So it’s not quite the same as someone who, say, is looking for a rare Binion’s chip and then wants a barrel of them. I pretty much don’t care about the casinos they come from, and in fact most of them don’t come from casinos. Happily that saves me a lot of money. :)

I'm the guy you're referring to I believe. I wasn't collecting barrels, but I did sell a bunch of heads up sets that basically consisted of barrels.

I no longer have heads-up sets, but I still have 4 racks of 10-chip shuffle stacks. I do a lot of chip shuffling while on the computer or while watching TV, basically fidget spinners for me.

Also, I don't remember being annoyed so you have a better memory than I do.

Ha, yes it was you. Maybe you weren’t annoyed - it’s never easy to know for sure, on the internet. And that happened at least a year ago, so I’d say your memory is fine.

Wasn't that more like 3 years ago? I remember at that time I was getting out of the hobby, but ended up getting sucked back in. I'm kind of on the way out again...or not...whatever lol

I think you're right

I do, I am making a mixed cash set 1 barrel at a time from different casinos
There was a discussion about that over the summer, I think. I believe the consensus was that instead of calling it a mixed set, it should be called a filthy, slutty mixed set?

I collect barrels of hundreds from California, inspired by @liftapint. The idea, initially at least, was to save as many cool Cali hotstamps $100 from milling as I could. Then it became something bigger - I like the challenge of finding cool chips in quantity. I’m a few barrels into this completely useless, very expensive but even more fun collection.

<raises hand>

Though I will say I've wildly calmed down at this point, largely because I've run out of room in my chip closet to store them, lol. I think I'm at 60ish barrels of casino $1s.

Hmm. I hate white hundos. But I hate milling more. Hmm. Okay, keep it up!

I used to buy barrels when I'd see them in the classifieds, then peddle them when I decided I wanted something else. Most were chips that would never see the felt anyway... so it was hard to justify keeping them. I'm more interested in assembling playable sets.

About the only ones I regret letting go of were my barrels of Empress Secondary $100s and $500s... but I think @buffalojim has given them a forever home they'll enjoy :)

Is this the famous "skittles" set? Or are there more than one of them? This is a dream of mine to one day start putting one together.

It is.
And I did start putting one together. My twist was that all the $1 barrels had to be leaded THCs.
I think I got up to 8 or 9 barrels, before deciding that I just didn’t love it, and scrapped the plans.
But one of those barrels was Foxwoods $1s, which became my obsession. I just passed 3 racks this week with those. So, something good came of it.

I have a dedicated rack, my only rack tbh, for barrels I'd love to have one day. This is what I have so far of them. Some I have almost half a barrel and others one or two but they'll get completed one day! I know @Chipton is a HUGE barrel guy and he's got some amazing ones.

Yep - well, my Skittles set, there are some others building similar sets. :)

I also did something similar to Forrest but with white racks of $1s - "Skittles Limit" :wtf:

I started out collecting singles and then somehow I moved to collecting barrels. I think I just love anything that has to do with casino chips.
