I’m looking at buying a set of chips, I’ve noticed that the Paulson THC chips seem to be very popular. I’m looking at a set of Paulson lucky 21 casino chips, they do not have the THC logo on the edges, they say Lucky 21. Which will be the better set to invest in?
Thanks!

I’m looking at purchasing a set of chips, this will be my first set. I have been looking at the THC Horseshoe chips and the Paulson Lucky 21 chips. Are the Lucky 21 chips THC? Which set could be more valuable down the road?

No, the Lucky 21's are a house mold, so they're not considered a THC mold. Are they a good investment? I doubt they'll increase in value, if that's what you're asking. If you're looking for assurances, you can pretty much always resell Paulson chips if the price is right. But I don't know off hand what these particular chips go for, or what you're paying.
And for what it's worth, the Horseshoe Cincinnati $1 chips are not considered THC either, despite having top hats and canes on them. That mold is called RHC around here.
Do some searches and read for a few hours or days. There's a lot to lean.

So what I know is, the Lucky 21 is of course a Paulson. Superior quality, but with what's known as a "house mold". There are many other Paulson chips made with house molds.

Here are a few snaps of house mold singles I have...

The quality of the house molds is top notch too. No difference to my hands as far as feel goes. I dont own enough of any to give feedback on how they play as a set, but I don't think you would be disappointed in the house mold for quality and if you seek that Paulson awesomeness!

Neither of the chips you are looking at are THC.

Horseshoes are RHC, Lucky 21s are house mold.

I don't recommend *investing* in either. Buy them because you like them and intend to use them. Both should hold their value, as both are made by Paulson.

@CDKL

I'd "invest" in samples if I was you. They are the best tool at your disposal to help you find the set that will suit you best.

Wow there is a lot to it for sure. As far as asking price for the Lucky 21’s are around $1.50/chip I believe. The Horseshoes are around $1.40/chip.

Ok I am currently looking into getting some sample sets to try out. Can you guys tell what some of your favorites are?

Good price for both. Price is probably mostly driven by condition, and number available and to a lesser extent, demand.

Just ordered samples of the horseshoe, lucky 21, and Lady Luck. So we will see how it goes from there.

Honestly, I would even slow down on getting samples just yet, which I know is hard. Take a while to see what kind of things people post, as your tastes are going to change day to day based on different things you see/read or did not even know existed.

I have not even been here a month and am finally now getting to where I mostly know what I want, but am still not there yet. As of now, I have a full china clay set, am very slowly going to build a THC set with getting my first cornerstone yesterday, etc. I want a CPC set but am torn between getting a stock set now (I wanted a Rounders one but seeing the Chestfields pour in and loving them now has me conflicted) or building a custom set with them over the course of the next year. Maybe I will do both. All I am saying is in-person poker may be stalled in most places for a bit, so taking even an extra ~30 days could save you a bit in the long-run. I know that is not as much fun, but figured I would share my thoughts.

If all you've played with are dice chips, then I think just about anything you buy here would be a vast improvement and you'll be happy. But if you're going to invest hundreds of dollars, definitely take your time. If you do this right, they'll last you a lifetime. Just make sure you have your priorities straight. Buy what you really want, and keep them and then you don't need to worry about whether they go up or down in value!

Fantastic post man! I couldn't agree more!!

$1.5/ chip for the lucky 21s sounds pretty expensive to me. At least the $5s and $25s should be priced way lower than that, probably closer to 75c/chip, imo. The $100s around $1 each or maybe a bit more, as they are definitely the coolest of the bunch.

There are lots of things to consider when buying chips sir... for example... I just paid $4 each for these ugly THC chips... is it a solid investment?? Who knows... I wouldn't sell them for less, they are rare.

So why would I pay that kind of money for chips I don't like!! Simple... these are my favorite fracs!
20200714_164625.jpg

I'm OCD and would rather play with ugly matching chips then mix my set. This hobby is different to everyone. While some will say those are awful!! I wouldn't pay $1 each... someone like me looking for old school leaded THC Hot stamp fracs is happy as hell to pay $4 a chip!!

Like everyone else says, Grab some samples. But find something that interests you... most of these chips feel about the same. Old school leaded omes are a couple grams heavier but not much difference.

If you want to impress your friends go for bright flashy chips!

Aces casino Giant inlay RHC chips... my first Paulson Set. Absolutely love these chips!

Or maybe find something cool that you relate to... these are our favorite chips! Not bright and flashy but still amazing, unique and a crowd pleaser every time!

Also notice the higher denoms here are other shapes and plaques... something that makes your players think they are high roller in the casino.

There are tons of options out there and asking other people what their favorite are is not going to help you make the decision for you!! Based off the chips mentioned I'm guessing you have found Apachepokerchips.com and that is where you are looking? That is where I bought my first set. Josh Is a great vendor and contributor also to the community.

I will say you are making a smart move by skipping the lower end chips, which never hold their value and inevitably you will probably wind up wanting a nice paulson set anyways!

Welcome to the forum @CDKL if theres ever anything I can help with feel free to shoot me a message!

You ever see a dog so ugly that it becomes adorable/endearing in its own way? I think I love those ugly ass joker-colored five cent Artichoke Joe chips, @Ben8257. :ROFLMAO:

Oh no those are my babies... I guess to some the whole set could be seen as ugly. Those Nickles are top 5 favorite chip for me!

Everyone accused my posts of being books, i don't see the issue with sharing a story.

When I started I was curious if any casino ever spent money on making one cent chips... how cool would that be? My curiosity lead me to Artichoke Joe's. Not only did they make pennies... they did it twice!!
20200521_185529.jpg

The spotted ones are the originals and then later they made solids. Of course I dream of owning a rack of pennies but at $19 plus per chip... it could be a while!! Lol

Whilst hunting for these elusive pennies I came across the other fracs, those spotted nickles and dimes and fell in love!! Come hell or high water I dreamed of a playable breakdown even if it's only a 6 or 8 player set!

Why would a casino make such a penny chip you may ask. I have herd the story here on the forum that this particular casino owner actually ran classes on how to gamble and thought people the game through micro stakes. Pretty damn awesome if you ask me. Either way that is awesome history and something I would like to own a piece of!

It's not a set that will be built over night but I love the hunt!!

Unbelievable fellows! Those are some really really nice chips, I’m stunned to say the least:)

If your buying chips for an investment, you are gonna have a rough time. As chips appear as casinos close, the market keeps growing. Some can increase in value, but most will slowly lower as killer sets appear.

Maybe not "bright and flashy" throughout, but I love that $5. And I consider that $1k hands-down not only my favorite brown chip ever, but one of my favorite all-time chips -- and I generally have zero use for tan or brown chips...)

Enjoy them!

Are these for sale?

Investment as in getting as much of my money back as possible if a new set strikes me in the right way.

Then THC is the safest bet, and everything else is a No. Those lucky 21s or RHC won't hold the same value. They are a great chip to get to enjoy and play with, but they are more likely to slowly lower then a THC set. But even with that forecast, Jack RHC raised, and that's a rarity.

Why not just buy a set you love and can afford, and never sell it.
