I visited Vegas early this year for the first time and played the Aria daily tournament. I didn't think the chips were all that nice, and I later discovered (through PCF) that these are actually Bud Jones! Having read about Bud Jones chips here, I thought for sure they would be right up my alley. However, having had a chance to handle them at the Aria, I didn't really love them all that much. My main gripe/surprise was the light weight of the chips.

My question is: Are Matsui, Abbiati, and other high-end plastic chips similar? I guess I just expected them to be heavier.

Matsui, Bud Jones and Abbiati are all (afaik) sorta light weight, or rather they are of normal casino chip weight. If heavy high end plastics is your thing though, you should look at B&Gs.

Shameless plug: As it so happens I have a set currently for sale and these babies are like 14g each (as oppose to around 10).

I like matsui sharp edge chips the best, didn't care for the beveled edge matsui or abiatti. I liked my Bud Jones S2 set and still regularly use my Bud Jones R4 set. If the aria chips felt light I would bet they are unweighted S2s, in which case matsui and abiatti are slightly heavier.

@Eriks I saw your ad actually! One of the hosts for our group has some cheap slugged plastics that are 14g and they are a little too heavy for my liking. Good to know on the B&G's though!

@natumes Good insight, thank you!

Abiatti's have a metal insert and are definitely heavier. From memory, I think they're about 13g (at least the Park Place ones I have are).

The Crown Plaza and Park Place Abbiatis are 11.5g. Unweighted Bud Jones S2 are a little over 8g. Other than that, their characteristics are quite similar because their materials and processes are very similar.

I absolutely love those style chips, but I know there is a very small minority of us here that do. I only wish there were more purchase options out there.

I've held enough sample sets of ALL of the chips mentioned in this thread to know that you simply cannot predict whether you'll like any one of them by holding any other of them. They're all just different.
