I’m looking for advice.
I have a set of low denomination Desert Heat cash chips but am thinking about upgrading to a set of Poker Knights chips.
I know they are both lower end but that’s all I have in my budget right now. From what I can tell going from the Desert Heat to the Poker Knights would be a slight step up. What do you guys think are the better chips?
Thanks

Edit.
I'm not set on the Poker Knights chips, but they seem a step up at a reasonable price. If anyone else can recommend any other comparably priced chips that would be great!
Thanks

If it was me, I would just continue using the Desert Heat and save up a couple bucks a week to get a good chip set that you want, I think you'll be happier in the long run since you'll eventually want to buy the more expensive ones!

Once you get to that budget, which again isn't too much, I'd recommend Majestics, Royals, Dia de Los Muertes, or Tiki Kings for that next tier.

Since they are both low end chips (but still better than dice chips!) I would lean towards staying with the desert heat just on looks. I havent handled DH so I cant compare feel and shuffle-ability. The PK are the exact same chips as the Showdown and Monaco club chips, just different stickers in the center. I have samples of those and I wasnt thrilled with the looks. The colors are very muted and bland. The pics you see online are definitely adjusted to look brighter. As for feel, the PKs are surprisingly better than the crappy dice chips. They have a softer feel and the sound isnt as harshly metallic.

I know you said you are looking at PKs based on budget, but I'd like to offer another option. If you can save up some extra money, I would highly recommend the Majestic chips at Apache. They have a better feel, better weight, no slug, better/cleaner sticker design, better colors.

I agree with you. Sadly the majestic are double the price and harder to get here in Canada.

Looks like maybe saving more and buying a higher end set is the better option

This is what I would recommend as well. In fact, if you can save enough to consider 0.60-0.80 per chip or more, I'd consider skipping China Clays entirely and going for ceramic or more premium plastic, or even clay if a fantastic deal comes your way.

Highly recommend these Monaco chips for a lower budget chip. They feel great, look decent and most importantly don’t have that sharp flashing that you find on the other budget-friendly chips at this price point. They also seem a lot flatter as well.

I also suggest sticking with Desert Heats. Spending money on a set that is in the “same price point” isn’t going to yield “better” results enough to justify the cost. Then you’ll just have two entry level sets that you will probably still be wanting something more. Better to save and make the next bigger leap up. And try to get a little $$ back by selling your desert heats to someone also looking for their first set. As other said, majestics and royals are a pretty good next stepping stone. Great thing about those sets is they tend to be easily sold at future dates. You could be patient, wait for a used set to come up for sale and jump on it (30-35c per chip, usually see one pop up every month or two). Then when you’re ready to take another step up to nice ceramics or even paulsons or casino chips, you’ll easily be able to sell your majestics and probably recoup most of your costs. Good luck in the search! And as everyone recommends, get a sample set before investing in a full set.

Unless you can find a set here, on eBay, or Facebook, Apache is your guy. Also that way YOU get to choose what chips you want and not buy someone else's set.

Save the money (or better yet win it in poker), it shouldn't take too long. You'll get the one you want and not keep thinking "what if?" and can sell the Desert Heats easily enough. I sold a set of them on Facebook a few months ago and it was easy since everyone else sells nothing but dice chips on there!

Poker Knights are a “step sideways” from Desert Heats. They’re really quite close in all but looks.

I have sample sets of both. Poker Knights stack slightly better, but the muted red, green, black, and purple colors do not stand out in less than optimal light. Desert Heats have more lively colors with denoms easily distinguished.

I bought a set of the Poker knights For cash game purposes. But I was extremely disappointed in the muted colors. Like everybody else above said they’re just not as bright as the pictures.
